Position Purpose: Provide instruction in the absence of a full-time classroom teacher, or instructional support in the
absence of an instructional assistant, and carry out non-instructional duties required to maintain
safety and order before, during, and after the school day as needed; may create lesson plans and
provide feedback and grades on student work; implement prepared lesson plans, if available, to
ensure the integrity of academic and instructional time; must be willing to serve in any classroom
assignment as directed by the school administration on any day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Working knowledge of successful instructional delivery methods;
• Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made;
• Ability to recognize, support and work with students of diverse backgrounds, learning abilities, and learning styles;
• Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and other applicable federal and state laws, policies, and regulations;
• Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others;
• Ability to motivate students;
• Ability to constantly supervise the safety and well-being of students;
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written formusing a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
• Ability to implement academic and behavioral interventions, as needed;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the public.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Effective Substitute Teacher Training or hold a NC educator license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• First aid and CPR certifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as a Substitute in any classroom assigned by the school administration daily.
2. Instruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics and courses of instruction;
3. Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the lesson plans;
4. Address the various learning styles of students accordingly;
5. Demonstrate professional practices in teaching;
6. Participate in parent-teacher conferences; and attend school related functions;
7. Support classroom systems/procedures and help manage student behavior to ensure all
students are fully engaged in learning;
8. Ensure a safe and healthful environment;
9. Enforce school and classroom rules and expectations consistently;
10. Interact effectively with students, teachers, administrators, co-workers, parents and
community;
11. Support the use of technology in the classroom by monitoring student behavior while on
devices, and performing basic technology functions (i.e. troubleshooting) as needed;
12. Support software-based assessments, including assisting with creating an assessment
schedule, assist in administering the assessment, and helping with makeup assessments;
13. Conduct self as a role model, exhibiting positive behavior;
14. Will comply with all administrative directives in a timely and professional manner, including
written directives regarding specific issues or behaviors;
15. Will exhibit punctuality and regular attendance;
16. Demonstrate a strong work ethic;
17. Maintain confidentiality and;
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
