Summary
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa is seeking a Budget and Finance Specialist III. This position is part of the CALS Budget and Finance team and will be responsible for managing budgeting and financial operations, forecasting, analysis and reporting, and supporting college-level finance related activities. The individual will assist in the annual budget planning process, serve as a back-up for budget entry into Workday Planning, and serve in the cost center manager (CCM) role. They will develop and present periodic and ad-hoc financial reports and projections to senior leadership to assist in budget decisions.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field and 5 years of related experience.
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial accountability.
- Expertise in developing complex spreadsheets and using databases.
- Familiarity with fund accounting in a higher education, governmental, or non-profit organization setting including the funding sources and restrictions.
- Knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems, such as Workday.

- Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
- Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
- Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff
- May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
- May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
- Provides guidance to students
