We are currently hiring an Associate Director in Mechanical Engineering to join the Airframes and Advanced Effectors Department of the Mechanical Products Team (MPT) located in Tucson, AZ. This position is to support the Multi-Purpose Booster Development (MPBD) program as the Boost Vehicle Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL).
The Boost Vehicle IPTL is responsible to provide leadership for the team for all vehicle related Non-Recurring and Recurring tasks to ensure delivery of the system per program plan. The IPT structure will be determined by the Lead, who will also manage the suppliers, in both technical and cost/schedule parameters. The role requires a high level of execution expertise coupled with the ability to lead a high visibility development program.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Manage program scope ahead of schedule and under cost to meet program objectives. Cost and schedule responsivities for the IPT, Sub-IPTs, sub-tier suppliers within Propulsion IPT, and the MPT budget across the program. Report business metrics to both the program and functional leadership.
- Ability to communicate both to the RMD leadership to provide program status, accomplishments, issues, and help needed, while influencing the Sub-IPTs to ensure program alignment and teamwork. Escalate issues when appropriate and ask both functional and program leadership for help.
- Manage multiple contracts with major suppliers to successfully execute program
- Lead proposal efforts with major suppliers while partnering with supply chain to define future contract scope, schedule, and program start up as the suppliers.
- Strong understanding of earned value (EV) and supplier management on multiple contract types. Analyze EV data, understand variances and develop recovery plans where appropriate. Develop appropriate Estimate At Complete reports utilizing applicable tests of reasonableness.
- Present earned value results, accomplishments, and challenges to the customer at MMR each month.
- Establish cooperative and productive relationships with customer counterparts. Ensure customer satisfaction across the team.
- Collaborate with all other IPTs to ensure seamless handoffs and teamwork.
- Participate in the program’s Risk and Opportunity Board actively managing program risk and capturing opportunities.
- Ability to identify and explore adjacent market opportunities in partnership with Program and Supplier Leaders
- Provide program leadership to the Sub-IPTs and many collaborative partners from Engineering, Operations, Mission Assurance, and Global Supply Chain.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to all team members.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
- 12 years of prior relevant Defense or Aerospace engineering experience or 9 years with an advance degree
- Experience managing teams of 5 or more in a technical engineering capacity
- Experience using program management tools such as Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Plan (IMP) / Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and Risk and Opportunity Management to identify issues and develop recommended courses of action to management
- The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
- Relocate to Tucson, AZ (relo package available)
Qualifications We Value:
- Active Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)
- Experience with Missile Defense Agency customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership
- Experience with leading development and maintenance across multiple program sites
- Experience in Propulsion system design and/or production
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability as an Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) able to drive design and development across the hardware, software and test organizations
- Cost Account Manager or Earned Value experience
- Program Management certification or experience
- Experience with Scrum at Scale
- Excellent presentation and proposal skills
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
