POSITION SUMMARY
The Billing Specialist position is responsible for management and coordination of billing department goals with administrative team and billing consultants. Must have computer knowledge and knowledge of Excel for creating worksheets. The position requires a friendly attitude, a certain amount of compassion when dealing with patients, but also being firm when needed when patients become argumentative, being professional at all times. This position has leadership role potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES
All activities must be as instructed during training, and in accordance with SIM and Billing Clerk policy and procedure.
- Responsible for coordinating with Billing Consultant
- Manage problem accounts
- Researching claims issues
- Accounts Receivable
- Sending account to collections
- Reporting billing office progress and issues to Administration Team
- Customer service
- Take payments
- Telephone inquiries
- Process denials by calling insurance companies, making inquiries on line with insurances and researching unpaid claims, and doing whatever, correcting coding, and rebilling claims
- Process refund requests and give to billing manager
- Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 Coding Guidelines
- As needed: daily closing procedures, becoming familiar with month end procedure, electronic and paper insurance claims
- Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management
- Oversee billing for Workman’s Compensation claims
- Open appointment scheduler and check each provider’s appointment list to see if there are any problem flags on the scheduler each morning.
- Call patient and notify them of their balance before appointment
- Sets up payment plans as needed
- Dismisses patients after accounts are not paid and only after approval of doctor
- Sends dismissal letter
- Adjust accounts with appropriate collection adjustment codes

EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED equivalent
CPC and/or Billing Certification (preferred)
