What you will do at Precinct One
Commissioner Precinct One has an exciting opening for a Bike Mechanic. The Bike Mechanic role will assist the Bike Program Coordinator in growing Precinct One’s first Bike Program, in partnership with our community centers, local organizations, school districts and relevant stakeholders. This includes program development/planning, program administration, marketing/outreach, education and training, event promotion, volunteer coordination, and program evaluation. In addition, the successful candidate will help maintain program weekly reports, budgets and data collection.
The Bike Mechanic will help plan, organize and implement: bike safety education classes; bike rides; and bike maintenance workshops to educate school administrators, seniors, parents, and students about pedestrian and bicycle safety; build multigenerational pedestrian and cyclist awareness; and get more people on bikes safely. We promote the use of bicycles as transportation and safe places to ride for all ages, the bike program brings more people together to teach individuals how to ride a bike safely. The Bike Mechanic will help with general bike services, repairs and maintenance of 300 bikes as needed.

Requirements
Education:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• High School diploma or equivalent
Experience:
• Three (3) years of experience in operating various types of bicycles.
• Three (3) years of experience at a bicycle shop as a mechanic.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Thorough working knowledge of modern carbon road and mountain bikes, e-bikes, hybrid, folding bikes, hydraulic disc brakes, etc.
• Ability to facilitate the ongoing evaluation of bicycling programs to measure progress.
• Support program activities including the development and maintenance of a Bike Program website.
• Must have the physical ability to lift 45 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license.

There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government.
With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other.
Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 20 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
