Responsibilities:
Oversees the benefits staff and the process related to company benefits policy. Develops/designs, negotiates, implements and administers all company benefit plans. Works with internal and external auditors, consultants, third party administrators, brokers, carriers, and providers. Assures compliance with all legal requirements of various associate benefit programs and prepares and files required legal reports, etc.

  • Administers group life insurance, health, and any company paid insurance, 401(k), voluntary benefits, and other related benefit programs within budgetary guidelines.
  • Develops criteria for determination of insurance carriers and assists in the selection of same. Manages vendor contact and annual contract renewals for all plans.
  • Manages staff with communication of annual benefit program enrollments or benefit changes through various communication modes. Provides counseling assistance to associates and management in field locations with regard to benefit issues/questions.
  • Manages administration and maintenance of records to assist in processing associate disability, and COBRA.
  • Prepares and maintains benefit description booklets and certificates, annual 5500 benefit statements, IRS and other reports for employees, administration and regulatory requirements. Performs periodic internal and external audit of all plans.
  • Recommends procedures for maintenance of benefit programs and issues operating instructions.
  • Conducts surveys, analyzes, and maintains an organized body of information on benefit programs of other organizations.
  • Informs management of trends and developments on the benefits field. Provides advice and counsel regarding current developments in benefit programs.
  • Serves as focal interface with the organization and insurance carriers, legal firms, governing groups, providers, and other agencies.
  • Support senior management in regional health care contract negotiations and integration with mergers and acquisitions.
  • Conducts special studies as requested by management.
  • Participates in the establishment and management of short and long range objectives for departmental programs.
  • Interviews and hires new benefit staff personnel.
  • Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; and five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

CBP or CEBS preferred.

Management/Decision Making
Directly supervises the Benefits Supervisor and indirectly supervises the Associates in the Benefits Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge and Skills

Possesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function. Skills must include excellent communication, time management, writing, decision-making, presentation, and organizational skills. Must be flexible, proactive, and able to think creatively. Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and to collaborate effectively with a variety of individuals in cross-functional departments.

Salary Range Information: $97,910 - $124,720 / year
