Norwalk Based provider of residential and day services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities seeks Program Support Specialist to provide individualized behavior support in adult services. Responsibilities include:

· Displays an overall commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

· Ensure the timely the submission of behavior plans to the DDS Program Review and Human Rights Committees (i.e., completed in a timely fashion, checked for completeness and accuracy, follow-up on recommendations as required, provide oversight of staff to ensure aggregate improvement).

· Ensure the timely completion of behavior support plans, reviews, data collection, quarterly reports and communications as required by DDS standards.

· Provide behavioral assistance to day and residential programs.

· Handle the collection of raw data and convert to a visual display (i.e. graphs or charts).

· Provide a written record of behavioral observations using case notes, incident reports and various data collection systems. Alert Behavior Analyst/Manager to problems with data collections.

· Demonstrate knowledge of behavior support plans, train appropriate staff on implementation and observe and provide regular feedback on implementation by staff. Communicate observed behavioral concerns and implementation problems to appropriate staff.

· Responsible for having a thorough understanding of STAR policies and procedures, and DDS regulations, and assure that they are consistently implemented.

· Model and assist staff with problem solving around behavioral challenges

- Assist staff in the completion and routing of STAR internal incident reports and DDS

#255 forms.

· Act as behavioral liaison to interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.

- Provide coverage at various STAR programs or services as needed.

Other Duties:

- Serve as an Investigator, when assigned, for Abuse or Neglect Allegations.

· Responsible for the general safety of all persons under his/her supervision

· Assist with toileting, feeding, and personal care needs of participants.

· Safeguard human and civil rights of all persons participating in programs under his/her supervision.

Other Duties continued:

· Serve as role model for program participants.

- Attend agency-conducted meetings, and mandatory in-service training

- Other assigned duties.

Physical Requirement: Ability to lift 60-80 lbs. occasionally. Stand and walk 90 % of workday. Ability to run distances up to 40 yards. Strength enough to hold and restrict movement of an adult. Physical dexterity, range of motion, and coordination to deflect, block and parry objects or strikes.

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree. Two years experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.

OR

A combination of education and experience which in the judgment of the hiring body, meets the qualifications standards ensuring satisfactory job performance.

Must have a CT driver’s license and hold or be eligible for Public Service License.

Must have reliable and available transportation.

Successful completion of Physical Management Techniques (PMT), First-aid/CPR and competent demonstration of related skills and techniques.

Hours: 40 hours/week. Hours may fluctuate depending upon participant needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
