House of Black Coffee Company, aka "Hob Coffee", was started by a group of self-declared "Coffeeheads" who share a passion for great tasting coffee. What is a Coffeehead? It is a new perspective on the culture and the individuals who enjoy high quality coffee. We're not snobs. We're not nerds. We are simply just people who have an avid interest in all things related to the craft. Our mission is to redefine stereotypes by bringing fresh vibes with fresh coffee, one cup at a time.

Our goal is to serve excellent small batch, craft coffee roasted locally here in San Diego, California. We want to share our passion for high quality coffee with our community in a unique, inviting experience. We typically carry 3-4 single origin coffee beans at any given time. These can be found in our online store, or if you're ever in the Sabre springs / Downtown East Village / Hillcrest, come stop by our 3 shops. We offer a full espresso bar, nitro cold brew, pour overs and other non coffee drinks!

At House of Black Coffee, we know how to make amazing coffee and have fun doing it! Although we are a craft coffee shop, there is no snootiness here. In our shops, we play hip-hop while we work our way through the day. Our vibes are as fresh as the beans we roast– which is why we like to say “we make fresh coffee FRESH!” We are a rapidly expanding business, with three locations across San Diego and a fourth coming this summer.

We are looking for a part-time barista to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who wants a long-term, stable position with opportunities to grow into full-time. As a barista at HOB, you’ll enjoy perks like free shift drinks, flexible scheduling, and great tips in addition to your hourly wage (based on experience). An ideal candidate has experience in coffee, but is willing to learn exactly how we do things at HOB! Customer service is our top priority, so we are also looking for someone energetic that enjoys building rapport with our customers. We are looking for a “people-person” that will be able to educate customers on our menu and brand, make drinks recommendations based on their preferences, and promote special items.

The hours for this job will depend on your schedule and the needs of the store. Because we have several locations, there is great flexibility and ability for more hours if needed.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

- Greet customers

- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)

- Prepare beverages while following recipes

- Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins

- Receive and process payments (cash, gift/credit cards)

- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs

- Comply with health and safety regulations

- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items (we love new ideas!)

- Maintain clean bar, kitchen, lobby, and bathroom areas of the coffee shop

- The ability to work both opening or closing shifts

Skills:

- Previous work experience as a barista

- Comfort with all different types of customers

- Hands-on experience with brewing equipment

- Communication skills
