JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Babbitt Specialist Reports To: Shop Supervisor/Lead
Department: 10 - Manufacturing FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Perform specialized operations to consistently spin or static pour parts with proper babbitt bond to backing materials.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare production parts for tinning and spinning by cycling them through the cleaning process per the standard work instruction(s).
- Accountable for monitoring temperatures of all equipment used in the Spin Room.
- Maintain Set-Up Book to record information concerning RPM's, water spray pattern, quenching time and any other pertinent data.
- Responsible for safely spinning correct amount of Babbitt into each part. Integrity is important to maintain quality at acceptable levels while producing at or above the production standards established in the shop work order packet.
- Record Babbitt usage properly on ShopVue labor entry screen.
- Perform monthly Babbitt and tin inventory.
- Perform weekly checks of cleaning solution, acid and flux
- Daily maintenance of spin room equipment such as oiling and greasing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company’s goals.
- Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
- Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals.
- Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Familiarity with machine shop environment
- Must be dependable.
- Must be reliable to handle equipment safely with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Unique PPE requirements for Spin room will be reviewed and must be adhered to.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
- Capable of lifting 35 pounds and with use of mechanical aids manipulate parts or machines exceeding 20,000 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is typically considered within a Miba location, during normal or extended business hours, to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor
