The Department of Athletics at Bloomsburg is seeking an Athletic Success and Student Support Coordinator (SUA1) who is responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics and Associate Athletic Director/SWA with the daily operation of the athletic department and coordinating various administrative functions within the department focused on operations and student academic success. The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, games management, supporting the holistic academic endeavors of student-athletes, advise student-athletes on academic progress and develop reporting standards for retention and matriculation, develop and implement educational programming, academic support, civic engagement (Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and, various special projects, such as written assessment of student-athletes’ experiences and academic tracking, as well as general office management duties. Candidates applying should also possess demonstrated qualities that would further the academic mission and vision of Bloomsburg Athletics.

Examples of Duties

Manage the events and programmatic efforts of various athletic teams and scheduling.

Assist in the educational programming for student-athletes, along with complete oversight of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Work closely with the Associate Director of Athletics to establish academic protocols that ensure retention, course completion and college completion, along with partnering with other university units to ensure a supportive academic environment.

Serve as an academic point of contact for prospective student-athletes. Meet with at-risk student-athletes and develop academic improvement plans.

Support the efforts of the athletic department, as assigned by the Director of Athletics to support the goals of the University and Athletics, including Title IX and Gender Equity.

Plan, promote, and manage all operations for the Husky Tailgate Zone at home football games

Manage athletic ticketing and the online marketplace to track and fulfill season, group, and individual game purchases while providing superior customer service

Support the Minors on Campus Committee in their continued assessment of all Bloomsburg University events to ensure the safety of those on campus.

Work collaboratively with Bloomsburg’s Community Government Association to enhance the student-athlete experience and achieve the strategic missions of Bloomsburg Athletics on projects such as “The Big Event”

Support Residence Life and Auxiliary Services in athletic related functions, including student-athlete move in, winter housing, spring break housing, summer camps, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

DECISION MAKING
The incumbent must use professional judgment on a daily basis while executing independent decision-making (For example, managing and assignment of tailgating locations, academic support of student-athletes and scheduling, and reporting on retention). Decisions made sometimes affect one coach or team, and often affect several individuals or the entire athletic department. Judgment decisions are important to the enhancement of the fan and student-athlete experience and could minimize issues with outside groups, officials or even the NCAA. Decisions are to be clearly communicated to involved parties via personal contact, email, or department meetings while adhering to the overall athletic department’s programmatic and goal direction. When a decision requires the Athletic Director’s approval, the incumbent is expected to present all options and provide a recommendation.

FISCAL RESPONSBILITY
Assists and works with Student Success Office, Athletic Director, Associate AD/SWA, and coaching staffs with the development of student success.

  • Graduate Assistants
  • Work Study Students assigned to Tailgate and event activities

Qualifying Experience / Education

Minimum Experience and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred.
  • Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics and/or as a student-athlete (experience as a student athlete is preferred)
  • Familiarity with athletic best practices and theory
  • Working understanding of intercollegiate athletics
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all campus departments
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Strong organizational, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to relate to coaches, athletes, officials, university constituents, and guests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work and communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, ESS/E-Time, EMS scheduling software, and the university work order system.
  • Ability to act professionally in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to balance competing needs with the best interests of the entire department.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Bloomsburg University sponsored sports to support department efforts is required.
  • Ability to write/compose documents for internal and external use on behalf of the Athletics Department.
  • Skill in interpreting and implementing regulations related to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Ability to lift/carry/move athletic and promotional materials in and outside, weighing up to 60 pounds

Supplemental Information

Location: Department of Athletics
Supervisor: Dr. Michael McFarland, Director of Athletics
Appointment: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week). This is a 12-month position. Weekly hours will be set according to athletic, student, and collaborative needs. Weekend and evening hours will be required.
