Job Summary
The Athletic Fields Maintenance Team Leader will be responsible for coordinating with coaches, supervising groundkeepers, and performing daily work on the athletic fields, and campus grounds.

- Men’s varsity soccer field
- Women’s varsity soccer field
- Men’s baseball field
- Baseball field
- Softball field
- Varsity Rugby pitch
- Club Rugby pitch
- Various practice fields, depending on seasonal sports in-play
- Football field/Men’s varsity Lacrosse (artificial turf infill system)
- Field hockey/Women’s varsity Lacrosse field (E-layer artificial turf)
Candidates will be coming to Bowdoin College at an exciting time. The Groundskeeping Department will be undergoing a large athletic field renovation and installation starting Summer 2023. Installation will include new baseball and softball complex (artificial turf), multi-purpose artificial turf field (in-fill system type field), new varsity rugby pitch, new grass practice field, updated irrigation system, and new turf throughout complex. This is an essential role for our Groundskeeping team as they will be partnering with the Athletics department and representing the Fields maintenance on campus.
Hourly range for this position is expected to be: Minimum $22.00 – Maximum $26.00 per hour
Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
- High School degree or GED equivalent required
- Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Ability to deal calmly with a wide variety of people in dynamic, often stressful circumstances
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
- 3 years experience in sport field maintenance
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy
Preferred:
- Licenses and certifications (CPA, RN, etc.)
- Forklift certification
- Class B driver’s license
- Pesticide Applicator’s License
Standard Work Days and Hours
- Standard hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
- Evening and weekend shifts are required during special events and heavy seasonal workloads.
- This role will be required to be available on call (24/7) and work during emergencies (i.e. weather, changes in sport events).
