Assistant Food Safety & Quality Coordinator

Position Overview:

The responsibilities of this position are but not limited to supporting the FSQ Coordinator and help develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures as they relate to the safety and quality of products and processes ensuring compliance to CMP standards, USDA and other regulatory requirements. This full-time position will function during the hours of first shift. Schedule may vary depending on production needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Ensure the daily HACCP documentation is complete, pre-shipment are reviewed and proper follow-ups are documented
• Review and maintain HACCP hazard analysis and overall plan, ensuring it is complete, complaint with regulatory requirements and reflects the products and processes represented by the plan
• Represent Food Safety and Quality on cross-functional project teams
• Identify, define and solve quality issues in association with plant operations, R&D, Engineering and continuous improvement teams
• Lead third party audits and serve in a lead or support role in regulatory audits
• Troubleshoot day-to-day food safety and quality opportunities to help the teams define comprehensive and proactive solutions
• Use technical expertise to educate members on food safety and quality applications and systems
• Lead project teams that improve the quality of the process and product
• Work with Facility Continuous Improvement and Quality Teams to improve price of non-conformance (PONC) and First Pass Quality performance utilizing the concept of best practices and enhancing standard work
• Plan, organize and coach the work of the Food Safety Quality Leader
• Handle issues that arise in the absence of the FSQ Coordinator and cover other positions within the department if necessary. FSQ Team Lead will handle issues that arise in the absence of the Assistant FSQ Coordinator.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required
• BS in Food Science, Meat Science, Microbiology or related field preferred

Experience

• Experience in food production required; meat/poultry processing preferred

Skills and Competencies:

• Knowledge of general USDA regulations is required
• Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and GMP is required
• Basic computer skills are required
• Knowledge of Kronos, SAP, Outlook and MS Office is preferred
• Ablity to work in a fast pace environment
• Great communication skills

Working Conditions

• Member must be able to work in a humid and wet environment
• Temperatures will vary depending on time of the year (winter/summer)
• Must be able to tolerate spice odors
• Physical demands for this position require being able to work and stand most of the time
• Member must be able to lift 15 to 25 pounds, carry and push 5 to 25 pounds approximately
