The associate vice president for engagement (AVP) will be responsible for the administration, management, and leadership of engagement programs including Alumni & Family Relations, College Events, and Annual Giving. The position provides high-level strategy and vision for impactful engagement with the goal of building mutually beneficial relationships between the college and its constituents. In conjunction with advancement leadership, alumni engagement, events, and annual giving staff members, the AVP will formulate annual and long-term strategic plans for the areas within the engagement office. The AVP is also responsible for managing, cultivating, and soliciting a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects. This person will serve as an active member of the college community; participate regularly in institution-wide activities; provide outreach from Advancement to various constituencies on campus; and represent the college at key events.The College has a strong antiracist agenda; the AVP must support and advocate for that agenda in all aspects of their work, including advancing and supporting the college's antiracism plan.

ADVANCEMENT In December 2021, Colorado College successfully completed a comprehensive fundraising initiative, Building on Originality: The Campaign for Colorado College, surpassing its $435 million goal by more than $40 million. The campaign total included $302 million in gifts from donors at every level and $176 million in the transfer of assets of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center to CC, which represented the largest single gift in CC's history. In spring 2021, the college also celebrated the largest commitment in college history from an individual donor - a future estate gift valued at $33.5 million. The campaign has created lasting impact. With the support of generous members of the CC community, the Charles L. Tutt Library was renovated and the Ed Robson Arena and Yalich Student Services Center were completed. Donors contributed more than $90 million to support scholarships and enhance the CC experience through internships, student research, and other experiential learning opportunities. The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center is expanding learning opportunities for Colorado College students and access for the local community. Fundraising for priority initiatives continues including access and affordability through financial aid, bolstering the college's ability to recruit and retain exceptional faculty, and investments in capital projects. The college's commitment to antiracism and a focus on creativity and innovation infuse projects and priorities on campus.

Responsibilities:
Program Management: Improve, enhance, and measure effectiveness of existing programs while formulating new initiatives that will resonate with alumni, have a positive impact on the college, and reflect the diverse interests of alumni and the varied ways they wish to be engaged; explore expansion of affinity networks and shared interest groups that reflect the changing needs of alumni. Ensure that the college can draw upon the skills and talents of its diverse alumni body; offer programming that is intellectually engaging and brings the rich and varied resources of the college-including academic programs, career services, and networking-to alumni. Ensure that the events team and the programs they oversee are strategically utilized, efficiently managed, and enhance the experience of college community members.Staff Management: Provide guidance and promote excellence through well-defined and measurable goals for staff members; ensure staff members understand their work within the context of the colleges mission and strategic priorities; create a culture where effective teamwork, collaboration, and innovation are expected, recognized, and rewarded. Ensure that staff members execute effective strategies that meaningfully engage a broad and diverse constituency of alumni. Work with team to ensure that engagement of academic and administrative leaders is thoughtful and well planned; ensure that key partners are fully supported and well prepared in their alumni engagement efforts.Campus and Community Engagement: Manage and staff the Alumni Association Council (AAC); develop goals and metrics to support the Councils efforts to encourage alumni participation through service, volunteerism, and philanthropy and in support of the colleges mission; establish and communicate clearly defined responsibilities and expectations for council members and other volunteers. Collaborate with various college constituencies to develop a volunteer opportunity continuum through which alumni, parents, and friends have opportunities to engage with the college at varying levels and provide a pipeline for key volunteer leadership. Partner with the director of advancement communications and various college constituencies to develop and deliver consistent messaging to external audiences through print, electronic, and other media; evaluate and utilize new technologies and opportunities offered by social media to target various segment of the alumni community and enrich communication. Convey to alumni and students that their service is valued by the CC, their concerns are heard, and their support is appreciated; demonstrate to alumni and parents the impact of their contributions to the college. Forge partnerships with various student organizations and engage undergraduates in activities of the alumni engagement office; educate undergraduates and young alumni on the important role philanthropy plays in the life of the college; determine ways to reach out to and meaningfully engage these key constituent groups and educate them on their role as alumni.Annual Giving & Alumni Participation: In collaboration with director of annual giving, develop and implement an innovative plan that will increase the alumni participation rate and overall unrestricted giving; improve donor retention; create a robust pipeline of major gifts prospects; and ensure the level and rate of giving are sustainable and continue to grow on an annual basis. Partner with the director of advancement communication to implement a marketing strategy that is consistent with the colleges messaging and branding; recognizes how different generations respond to outreach and appeals; and ensures the success of direct mail, peer-to-peer, electronic, and staff driven fundraising efforts.Colorado College Anti-Racism Plan: Assist the vice president for advancement in the development and implementation of the divisions strategic plan, which will build a shared understanding and support of the colleges antiracism plan. Actively support the colleges commitment to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community. Create metrics, KPIs, and other ways to measure the success of engagement programs, return on investment in these initiatives, and progress towards established goals; share data with college leadership, advancement staff, trustees, and donors. Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training. Act in a socially responsible manner and model environmental sustainability by exercising financial prudence, using college resources wisely, and supporting ecological initiatives and innovation. Perform other related duties as assigned by the vice president for advancement.

Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training. Act in a socially responsible manner and model environmental sustainability by exercising financial prudence, using college resources wisely, and supporting ecological initiatives and innovation. Perform other related duties as assigned by the vice president for advancement.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and seven years related experience, including extensive, demonstrated experience building alumni and family engagement programs and event production and strategy (both in person and online) in a college or university setting. A track record of success formulating and executing short-term and long-range plans that result in the transformational impact of engagement programs and the institutions they support; the ability to analyze data and implement metrics to achieve results. Experience leading a team and improving the effectiveness of staff members through established objectives, performance standards, and accountability; a strong commitment to professional development and a desire to create a collaborative work environment that builds confidence, promotes diversity, celebrates achievements, and encourages teamwork; the ability to exercise sound judgment, fairness, and sensitivity when leading a team of staff members. Expertise in annual giving and an appreciation for the role unrestricted support has on the overall fundraising success of an organization and the fiscal health of an institution. Conversant in social media and other tools and how they may be used to support communication and marketing efforts and increase alumni participation rates and revenue. Outstanding management, organizational, and planning skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Exemplary interpersonal and communications skills as well as a high degree of comfort and cultural sensitivity engaging and inspiring alumni throughout the United States and around the world; the ability to serve as one of the colleges primary representatives to alumni. The ability to work effectively with and support a board of directors and key volunteers as they undertake their duties and responsibilities in service to an institution. The ability to manage internal and external stakeholders, effectively, and implement and maintain high standards of customer service in an environment with multiple constituencies. The ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships with all members of an academic community and a diverse body of parents and alumni; the ability to invest in the success of campus and alumni partners.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in a related field is preferred; knowledge and familiarity with advancement systems and software is highly desirable.
