About Us

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Job Summary

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (AVCAP) reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. As a member of the Vice Chancellor’s team, the AVCAP provides leadership to campuses regarding new academic programs, academic degree portfolios, and active monitoring of institutional annual academic forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the USG academic affairs representative on system level cross-functional teams and as part of system level team support to institutions.
  • Lead the internal academic degree approval process as well manage the development, deactivations, and terminations of academic programs as well as comprehensive academic program review and advise the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
  • Develop and produce all materials for the Board of Regents Committee on Academic Affairs.
  • Develops and manages Academic Affairs related programs and processes, including assisting with the developing and implementing effective metrics, policies and/or procedures.
  • Provides guidance, policy interpretation and expertise on a variety of faculty and academic affairs related matters.
  • Serves as USG Academic Affairs representative on committees, initiatives, projects, and other activities and may make presentations at meetings, workshops and events.
  • May represent the University System of Georgia and/or the System Office at meetings and conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • A master’s degree and a minimum of five years of senior administrative level leadership and experience in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in leading one or more complex major organizational efforts on a campus or at the system office level.
  • Previous experience in leading a variety of academic administrative roles and has served in an Academic Affairs office position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate degree and successive experience in academic affairs higher education administration.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, assessing and managing change in academic affairs.
  • Knowledge of University System of Georgia / Board of Regents policies and procedures related to Academic Affairs and Faculty Affairs.

  • Excellent organizational skills, self-directed, and collaborative to drive solutions and results.
  • Knowledge of current trends in higher education.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations impacting higher education.
  • Proficient in understanding SACSCOC policies and procedures as well as professional accrediting bodies
