We are looking to bring on board a Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) Supervisor to supervise, mentor, and train highly specialized Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) who conduct confidential Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) investigations and contact tracing, frontline outbreak response, client-centered prevention counseling and education, and HIV linkage and reengagement to medical care activities throughout the state. Assist in Central Region DIS duties. Additionally, this role will coordinate all staff capacity building and trainings in the Infectious Disease Prevention Program.
The successful candidate will bring solid experience in Disease Intervention, and is familiar with:

Job duties:
- Supervise, mentor, and train highly specialized Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) who conduct confidential Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) investigations and contact tracing
- Oversee a diverse team of DIS and support staff and provide daily guidance on the management of assigned disease investigations to effectively reduce the spread of STD and HIV infections. Ensure proper case reporting and data quality.
- Conduct STD and HIV disease investigations and interviews, and/or HIV linkage/reengagement to care services
- Prepare and disseminate technical reports for statewide and federal partners.
- Address all technical and general consults related to STDs from providers, community members, and partner organizations
- Collaborate with other Infectious Disease Prevention team managers to drive program priorities.
- Monitor, implement, and evaluate DIS workforce outcomes.
- Serve as the primary internal training and capacity building coordinator for workforce development goals for Infectious Disease Prevention staff
- Establish staff training curriculum to assist in the onboarding and offboarding of Infectious Disease Prevention staff
- Perform education and outreach activities and serve as the point of contact for DIS prevention activities for local and federal agencies, medical providers, and members of the public.
- Assist in the coordination of HIV/STD outbreak and emergency response.
- Coordinate and participate in consumer planning groups related to HIV, STD, and viral hepatitis prevention
- Collaborate with state-funded organizations, staff, and clinicians to improve HIV/STD morbidity in the state.
- Participate in and contribute to overall Infectious Disease Program planning and evaluation activities.
- Review and evaluate integrated HIV, STD, viral hepatitis, and harm reduction data and interventions
- Attend relevant meetings, work sessions, and conferences.
- Contribute to Infectious Disease Surveillance evaluation, performance improvement, outbreak preparedness, and response planning including but not limited to COVID19
Knowledge, Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Education, Public Administration, or one of the Behavioral Sciences, and three (3) years’ experience health program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, diagnostic, treatment, and prevention aspects of HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia infection sufficient to effectively and efficiently guide and direct employees, confer with medical and public health professionals, and communicate with others.
- Ability to gather, synthesize, and summarize a variety of information for local and federal partners
- Experience creating training curriculum and leading trainings on a variety of public health topics.
- Knowledge of and experience with federal, local, and state policies
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners and populations
- Experience solving a wide range of specific personnel, public health, and administrative problems.
- Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work with managers and staff to identify training needs and research information for training/meeting opportunities, or to provide outreach materials
- Strong leadership skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, professional health personnel, local officials, community groups, partners, and the general public.
