Department Summary
The Department of Teacher Education and Administration (TE&A) in the College of Education at The University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for the Endowed Chair in Teacher Education, beginning in the Fall of 2023. This is an appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure in the Department of Teacher Education and Administration. The endowed chair position will serve as director of the newly established North Texas Center for Inquiry in Teacher Education (NCITE) at the University of North Texas. NCITE will provide new and important research knowledge for the field of elementary teacher education, while also reflexively informing ongoing improvement of UNT’s teacher education program. The leader will collaborate with faculty, research staff, students, and leadership to develop inquiry questions, conduct research, and share learnings suggested by evidence. The College envisions that mixed methods of research will contribute to successive iterations of the program’s design.
Applicants are expected to have an impactful record of experience, research, and national visibility in the teacher education research community. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader in research planning, execution, and dissemination. We expect that candidates will also have a strong record in a focused program area such as social studies, STEM, early childhood, literacy, bilingual/multilingual education, educational foundations, and teacher leadership. All faculty in the College of Education are committed to improving people’s lives through powerful learning, social-emotional wellness, physical health, civic engagement, and equity-centered education.
The University of North Texas is a Tier One Research University in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex – the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. This dynamic region is seeing explosive growth, demographically and economically, with several of the fastest-growing municipalities in the nation, and is host to countless excellent restaurants, parks and outdoor opportunities, cultural institutions of all types, and globally diverse populations. UNT is located only 26 miles north of DFW International Airport. At over 43 ,000 students, UNT is one of the nation’s largest universities and is ranked in the top 8% of USA universities based on racial, geographic, gender, and age diversity and among the nation’s top 100 universities for social mobility and ethnic diversity ( U.S. News & World Report, 2020 College Rankings). UNT is among a very few universities to be a Research 1 University and also a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) and a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Summary
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program of national and international significance, to secure external funding to support research, to mentor graduate students and junior faculty, to cultivate relationships with leaders in partner districts and schools, and to collaborate with faculty and external agencies to achieve the academic goals of the Department, College, and the University. The successful candidate will assume a leadership role in the development and operations of the newly formed NCITE research center. In addition, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral courses (offered at the UNT campus, off-site locations, and online), serve as chair and a member of doctoral dissertation committees, and contribute service to the Department, College, University, community constituencies, and professional organizations.
