Associate Faculty - Event Planning


LOCATION: Lynnwood Washington


DESCRIPTION: Edmonds College and its Business Division invite applications for an Associate Faculty, Event Planning Instructor position. The college seeks faculty who will take a leadership role in their departments and the college, will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success. This is an Associate Faculty position that reports to the Dean of the Business Division.

Faculty members are responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes to a diverse student body in an online format; developing curriculum; preparing teaching materials; developing and assessing student learning outcomes to evaluate student work; assigning grades; maintaining required records; and advising and consulting with students to support their success.

The instructor will be responsible for providing leadership in the Event Planning Department and should be able to teach a variety of courses including Event Coordination, Best Practices, Virtual Event Planning, Sustainable/Green Events, Risk Management, Weddings, Entertainment, and Production. Other responsibilities include participation in the following: achievement of the College's mission, 'Teaching | Learning | Community', and goals; upholding the College's values; governance of the College via department and division work; committee assignments; required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance training); personal and program evaluation. The teaching assignment will include online teaching only.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, in Event Management or a Business-related field.

  • Two years of recent work experience in the event industry.

  • Excellent speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Event Management or a Business-related field.

  • Demonstrated experience with current pedagogical techniques, active learning, and student-centered learning for students of different abilities and at different levels of preparedness.

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and respect for a diverse community college environment composed of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated experience in assessing the effectiveness of teaching methods and curriculum/program changes on student engagement and success.

  • Evidence of ability to use technologies, including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, email, learning management systems, and evidence of ability to incorporate and assess the efficacy of new technologies in workflow, instruction, assessment, and daily practice.

  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching sustainable horticulture courses that include plant identification, soil science, pruning, pest management, and plant production with a focus on landscape management, design, construction, and restoration.

  • Two years of full-time business work experience in one or more of the instructional areas listed in the position description.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and working effectively with multiple teams of students, colleagues, college leadership, and customers in a community college environment.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a classroom and office and requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. The ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English is essential. Instructors are required to use a computer in the work environment.


COMPENSATION:

Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,386.28 at Step A.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
