Position Summary
The UNC Rural Associate Director assists the Director/Associate Provost with the establishment and fulfillment of UNC Rural’s mission and goals by providing leadership and day-to-day management of the initiative. The UNC Rural Associate Director is responsible for all facets of the unit in the absence of the Director/Associate Provost. The UNC Rural Associate Director works closely with the Director/Associate Provost and other staff colleagues within UNC Rural and in other university departments to provide leadership for these essential responsibilities: administration, evaluation and assessment and campus, state, community, and national engagement.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience with responsibilities related to program planning, management of evaluation, staff supervision, engaged research, and teaching; outstanding administrative skills, including organizational planning and development; knowledge of current practices related to rural communities and engaged scholarship in higher education, documented skills in program planning and assessment, applied research and evaluation, including both quantitative and qualitative; ability to independently plan, manage and meet deadlines for multiple projects with a minimum supervision and a positive attitude; ability to work well with unit constituents including faculty, staff, administrator, students, and community representatives; excellent written and oral communication skills as well as attention to detail; demonstrated experience working as an effective team member; flexible, adaptable and skilled at balancing multiple tasks and working well under pressure; and established commitment to public service and engagement.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
