Salary and Benefits
PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $75,000 per year to $85,000 per year.
This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU, and serves at the pleasure of the President.
The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. About the Position
The Associate Director of Annual Giving reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and Campaign Director, and is responsible for leading an omnichannel, data-driven, giving and digital engagement program at California State University East Bay.
The individual is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive and data-driven omnichannel solicitation program. Focused on donor acquisition and retention to support a robust major gift pipeline, the Associate Director is responsible for meeting donors where they are and soliciting them in a manner most likely to result in a donation.
The Associate Director should incorporate all appropriate solicitation and engagement channels, such as but not limited to direct mail, email, texting, social media, crowdfunding, etc. The Associate Director manages institutional initiatives such as days of giving, and other special initiatives and campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Manage Cal State East Bay’s annual fundraising and engagement program, developing strategic segmentation strategies around securing current use and expendable funds as well as building and retaining a long-term pipeline of philanthropic support.
- Develop and implement annual plans to meet donor acquisition and retention goals and objectives; regularly review and assess programs, adjusting as needed.
- Develop the annual solicitation strategy, planning and implementing tactics targeting diverse audiences of alumni, donors, faculty and staff by deploying cohesive content effectively utilizing data driven decisions, including A/B testing protocol, to determine maximum impact; conduct audits to assess effectiveness.
- Responsible for the oversight of all direct mail, email and digital ad appeals including: writing content, extracting and manipulating data from Raiser's Edge, and working with vendors.
- Serve as lead and project manager of contract with Ruffalo Noel Levitz.
- Project manage two giving days (fall and spring) for Cal State East Bay. Work with the office of Communications and Marketing to write copy, create marketing collateral, create and deploy web assets and marketing toolkits to campus partners.
- In partnership with the offices of Alumni Engagement and Communications and Marketing, design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy for engagement/giving, including actively identifying and managing a core group of social media ambassadors/volunteers focused on the goal of encouraging peer-to-peer engagement and solicitation.
- Collaborate with the office of Alumni Engagement to manage the recent graduate giving program. Develop and execute communications, events and activities to engage and grow alumni participation.
- Identify opportunities and initiate strategies for increasing revenue and donor counts through new programs (e.g., recurring giving, ecommerce, etc.) and special campaigns or appeals.
- Establish annual revenue goals and associated metrics, utilize reports to monitor progress, and share ongoing results regularly with the team unit and divisional leadership.

Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of two years experience working in annual giving/development/fundraising, marketing or related field, preferably in higher education.
- One year or more of supervising/managing professional staff.
- Knowledge of annual giving strategies, direct response marketing, social media campaigns, and email marketing best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Skilled in strategic planning, critical thinking, and strong analytical aptitude as well as data analysis/interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative, engaging content for marketing and communications purposes.
- Demonstrated understanding of marketing principles and practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain a complex calendar of solicitations by targeted constituency and fundraising strategy.
- Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience creating and executing content for digital platforms.
- Proficiency with Canva, Photoshop, or other similar graphic design tools.
- Experience analyzing and working with large data sets.
- Experience coordinating the work of in-house creative staff as well as contractors and freelancers.
Condition(s) of Employment
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment.
