Position Summary:
Monitors quality and budgeting standards, while managing to achieve hospital and corporate goals. Works with the Chief Nursing Officer and Chair of Medical Staff Leadership to address patient care issues by serving as a member of key medical and planning
committees of the hospital. Ensures that a continuous improvement approach is implemented to measure actual performance against established standards for nursing and patient care throughout the hospital. Plans, leads, organizes, directs, and evaluates the
delivery of patient care
Qualifications:
Education/Training
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Graduate degree in Business or health-related field required.
  • It is required that candidate must hold either a baccalaureate or a higher degree in nursing.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • National leadership board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Organization for
Nursing Leadership (AONL) within 2 years.

Experience

Six years’ experience in patient care management including nursing management is required. Experience in managing clinical
services in a managed care environment, including productivity enhancement, cost reduction, new program development, and
quality management is also required. Must demonstrate the ability to affect good medical staff relations while working with highly
qualified physicians.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements mechanisms to ensure a uniform quality of nursing and patient care wherever nursing and patient
care is provided.
  • Establishes mechanisms to encourage research and to incorporate research findings into standards of practice and policies and
procedures.
  • Measures actual budgetary performance (revenue, expense, staffing) against standards, and ensures variances are within
established targets.
  • Evaluates performance of persons reporting to the position against organizational, departmental, and personal goals and
objectives.
  • Ensures that safety, health, and regulatory standards are attained in the divisions assigned.
  • Ensures that a program is maintained to encourage recruitment and retention.
  • Maintains currency in administrative practice.
  • Participates in professional, collegiate, and community activities.
  • Develops/implements personal goals/objectives that support the organization’s strategic/operating plans and patient care
services.
  • Assures the nursing standards are effectively carried out throughout hospital nursing services.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the hospital's plan for providing nursing care.
  • Participates in developing hospital-wide patient care programs and policies and procedures that describe how patient's nursing
care needs are assessed, evaluated, and met.
  • Participates in corporate and hospital policy decisions that affect patient care.
  • Participates as a member of the Corporate Nursing Executive Council.
  • Develops, interprets, and promotes the formation of the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Orlando Health.
  • Develops and implements operational plans for the hospital in conjunction and consistent with the overall Orlando Health
strategic goals. Establishes system for control of variances.
  • Establishes and maintains an open and positive working relationship with board members, physicians, managers, employees,
patients, visitors, and the community.
  • Participates with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical areas in hospital's decision-making
structure and process.
  • Participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information management systems that support
patient care needs.
  • Implements effective, ongoing programs to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality of nursing care via the corporate nursing
quality assessment and improvement program.
  • Provides direct support and assistance to the managers and staff members assigned for the full accomplishments of their
assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Participates in any contract or other negotiations which would affect operations of the hospital, monitors compliance of
contracts.
  • Recruits, develops, retains, and evaluates qualified managers and staff members, recognizing the full accomplishments of staff
assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensures a method to monitor customer satisfaction with respect to services delivered, utilizing corporate and/or unit specific
tools.
  • Participates in the Quality Assessment and Improvement Program of Orlando Health and assures compliance of assigned areas
of responsibility.
  • Works with CNO to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise nursing practice, and assures implementation of the nursing
process.
  • Assists in the professional development of staff.
  • Maintains, revises, and implements changes in nursing and patient care policies and procedures to meet all licensing agency
requirements (e.g., JCAHO, local and state regulatory agencies).
  • Develops hospital budget for patient care area with input from managers and other hospital staff. Develops a nursing budget
with other leaders and other hospital staff that addresses the provision of nursing care to patients in each unit, area, or
department in which nursing care is provided.
  • Establishes budget requirements and maintains areas of responsibility within budgetary limitation.
  • Speaks on behalf of hospital nursing services in established meetings of hospital leadership, medical staff, and governing bodies.
  • Develops staff to make effective decisions and delegates authority to lowest appropriate level.
  • Acts as resource person and role model for all staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues related to patient care and unit function, and manages situations to reduce risk to
patients, staff, and organization.
  • Supports all policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of Orlando Health.
