Salary Range: $118,534/year or higher, commensurate with experience and/or education
The Assistant Vice President, Advising and Student Progression is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating high-quality programs and initiatives across the colleges in the areas of academic advising, student achievement, career exploration, and holistic student support and well-being. The Assistant Vice President will be a dynamic self-starter who can identify and respond knowledgeably to the needs of first-generation, low-income, and traditionally underserved populations. This individual is a collaborative leader who will make recommendations to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs on initiatives; manage and direct the Directors of Advising in each college and provide professional development and support in holistic student-focused advising practices to all of the full-time and part-time Academic Success Coordinators. The Vice President will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and leaders across the campus to develop and carry out a University-wide approach to student academic success.
DUTIES
- Collaborates with the college directors of advising and the academic success coordinators to develop, implement, oversee, and administer the academic advising, academic support, and educational assistance activities across the campus
- Identifies challenges in the academic pipeline that may impede student degree progress and timely completion and work closely with College deans to implement courses of action
- Monitors overall student progression and collaborates with University partners to implement timely and relevant solutions
- Collaborates with Student Success programs to ensure coordination between advising and student success efforts
- Ensures clear and accessible degree maps for all degree programs at the University
- Encourages students to access the support resources available to maximize their opportunity for academic success
- Ensures that all academic success coordinator efforts consistently generate measurable results and that these results are regularly and effectively communicated to the campus community
- Collaborates with faculty, administrators, and staff, develops, coordinates, and administers programs designed to increase overall student success by higher levels of student persistence and degree completion
- Assures that all students, regardless of major declaration or undeclared status, receive holistic and effective academic advising and support throughout their university experience
- Ensures the timely provision of relevant and accurate data to support the work being done in academic success as well as provide sound operational leadership
- Regularly and effectively communicates the accomplishments of academic success activities to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Actively engages in the continuous and thorough assessment of initiatives aimed at enhancing the probability of students’ academic success
- Provides supervision and visionary leadership by supporting professional development and offering timely, informative feedback and assessments
- Maintains ample availability and provides easily accessible ways for direct reports, chairs, assistant deans, and students to share challenges and concerns
- Effectively manages and deploys university resources to assure the success of academic success initiatives
- Serves as an active member of the Provost’s Leadership Team, providing representation for all supervised areas through insightful contributions made toward the overall leadership of the University
- Collects, analyzes, and uses student performance data including persistence, time to degree, credit hours are taken, etc. to assure that the University provides relevant student advising and academic success support and retention activities in accordance with best practices in student academic success nationally
- Coordinates and leads other projects as assigned by the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment
Physical Demands: Work is usually performed in a typical, comfortable interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. An individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing, etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks.

- Minimum of five (5) years experience in academic advising, student success, or related area(s)
- Minimum of five (5) years of higher education leadership experience
