Assistant Speech Coach Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help promote the speech team to potential members through conversation, social media, planned events, etc.
- Work with the other coaches to evaluate students during tryouts, place students on teams, and create a practice schedule. The teams you’ll be in charge of will depend on the amount of students who go out, the interest in the different categories, and coaching preferences.
- Independently run practices with your teams (1-2/week) and individuals (1-2/week). Practices need to be opportunities for students to not only get better for competitions, but gain strong public speaking opportunities and skills. Practice(s) should be thorough with goals for both the short and long term.
- Work with students (and the head coach) to create creative performances for contests. This may or may not include using editing software.
- Attend the following contests: Speech Night, Large Group (District, State, All-State), Individual Events (District, State, All-State) and Walnut Hills Tournament. More dates may be added as the season progresses.
- If ADM is hosting a contest: Help with the planning and implementation of the event.
- Meet with the head coach bi-weekly to discuss practices and plans for the contest season.
