The Assistant Resident Care Director is responsible for a hands-on approach to planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing person-centered care programs and activities in Assisted Living and Memory Care, including residents with Alzheimer’s and other related types of dementia. Ability to train caregivers and volunteers in how to effectively adapt activities to promote active and successful resident participation. Assists Resident Care Director by providing leadership and direction of the assisted living and memory care staff. They will hire, train, evaluate, mentor, schedule and supervise staff in accordance with company policy. Establishes appropriate levels of memory care/assisted living care and ensures delivery of quality nursing care. Assists Resident Care Director in the department’s financial performance, professionally represent Parc Communities, deliver exceptional senior living and contribute to resident and family satisfaction. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for creating and enhancing resident programs and activities using the company’s Wellness Program Model to promote physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual stimulation and engagement of residents as well as interaction between residents and staff
- Implements plans of correction for state surveys and deficiencies, complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charts, etc.
- Ensure that all resident services associates attend and participate in required training programs and maintain valid and current required licenses/certifications
- Review associates’ complaints and grievances and ensure that all are treated consistent with policies and applicable laws.
- Provide written and/or oral reports of the Resident Care Department, including incident reports, to Resident Care Director and others as required.
- Ensure that all resident care associates are aware of the plan of care.
- Evaluate and implement recommendations pertaining to resident care.
- Ensure smooth transitions for new move-ins to the Assisted Living and Memory Care communities.
- Always ensure adequate staffing levels in compliance with company and state requirements
- Serves “on call” on weekends and after normal working hours
- Serves as Manager on Duty on scheduled weekends
- Meet with Resident Care Director on a regular basis to communicate plans, highlights, special challenges, required support, etc.
- Train, schedule, and coach care staff to keep them informed regarding programs/events and their role and responsibilities in leading assigned resident programs
- Participate in the annual budget process and monitor the monthly budget through use of tracking and spend down reports
- Assess need for additional resources, supplies, and equipment, and manage within available budget
- Responsible for successful operation of the department in coordination with the Resident Care Director
- Assesses Life History and Preferences for each resident; maintains Communication Book; takes report from staff and refers clinical issues to the Resident Care Director for assessment and planning
- At morning standup, discusses residents who need to be monitored, staffing and programming issues
- Responsible for the maintenance of wellness objectives, standards of wellness practice, wellness policies and procedure manuals under the direction of the Resident Care Director
- Obtain information through a formal new resident assessment concerning the residents’ background, lifestyle, and interests to better provide programs that meet their needs
- Assess and update resident interests, needs and strengths and help set service plans accordingly
- Participate in assessment process and care planning as required by state regulation or company guideline
- Assure that 12 hours of programming is provided including evenings/weekends or per state guidelines
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident information and honor the residents’ personal property rights
- Observe and report changes in resident’s functional status and report to Resident Care Director and Care Staff
- Be familiar with community emergency procedures and be able to assist residents in case of emergency
- Maintain communication with General Manager, Resident Care Director and VP of Operations and attend planning calls, meetings and training sessions as scheduled

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed Vocational Nurse
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory position; or Associates degree from an accredited college or university; AND two (2) years of experience in a personal care health or aging related setting; or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university plus one (1) year experience in a health or aging related setting; or a state specific training for an assisted living facility administrator where the curriculum addresses in detail the knowledge and skills necessary to manage a nursing home of an assisted living facility.
- Experience assessing resident needs and developing approaches to reduce discomfort/enhance daily well-being
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in long term care, community based or assisted living
- Must be able to relate professionally and positively to community staff and to work cooperatively with associates of all levels and to represent community’s memory care program in the local community
- Experience in managing staff providing care for persons with dementia
- Must meet state regulatory requirements, if any, for the position. Demonstrated abilities in organization and effective interpersonal skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS/TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS:
- Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
- Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
- Possible exposure to verbal aggression from vendors, guests, residents and/or family members
- Continuous exposure to clients and/or family members who may be under stress
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is frequently required to use hand and finger to touch, handle and feel and required to reach with hands and arms. Must be able to meet certain physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping, or performing other work requiring physical exertion such as lifting (up to 50 lbs). Must be able to climb flights of stairs
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
