The Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health (Zilber School) at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee was founded in 2009 and is the only CEPH-accredited school of Public Health in Wisconsin. Zilber School faculty are leading research programs that address public health and health equity from the molecular to the societal levels. Current research areas span cancer, nutritional, social and environmental epidemiology; women’s health; health disparities; racism and health; health services and policy; maternal and child health; global health, genomics; epigenetics; developmental neurobiology; immunotoxicology; environmental toxicology; aquatic environmental microbiology and chemistry, technology and behavior; and health promotion. We offer PhD and MPH degrees in epidemiology along with a B.S. degree in public health. The Zilber School also offers graduate degrees in Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Community and Behavioral Health Promotion, and Public Health Policy. Our multidisciplinary MPH in epidemiology curricula prepare students to engage in rigorous, theory-driven, evidence-based, and community-engaged public health practice and research, and our Ph.D. curricula engages students to translate epidemiology to policy.
Job Summary
The Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Epidemiology. We seek an innovative scholar and educator with strong methodological expertise to support our mission of advancing population health, health equity, and social and environmental justice through education, research, community engagement, and advocacy for health-promoting policies and strategies. Candidates from all areas of epidemiology will be considered with priority given to candidates with research and teaching interests in social epidemiology and/or infectious disease epidemiology. Scholars who conduct translational or community-engaged research connecting epidemiology to public health practice or policy are especially encouraged to apply.
This position is a 100% hard-funded tenure-track 9-month academic year appointment with competitive salary, attractive benefits, three course per year teaching load, research incentives and start-up package, with ability to generate summer salary.
The candidate must possess a doctoral degree in Epidemiology by the time of appointment and have a track record of independent epidemiological research commensurate with years of experience. Preference will be given to candidates with research and/or teaching expertise in social epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, translational or community-engaged research connecting epidemiology to public health practice or policy, and/or strong skills in advanced epidemiological methods.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program; teach graduate and undergraduate epidemiology courses; mentor graduate students; and engage in university and professional and/or community service.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Epidemiology by the appointment start date
  • Track record of independent epidemiological research
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach applied and advanced epidemiological methods
  • Research and/or Teaching experience in social epidemiology.
  • Research and/or Teaching experience in infectious disease epidemiology.
  • Conducts translational or community-engaged research connecting epidemiology to public health practice or policy
