Job Title: Assistant Store ManagerDepartment: Retail

Reports to: Store Manager
Summary:
The Assistant Store Manager has the responsibility for all store activities in the Store Manager's absence. The Assistant Store Manager must exemplify the ACE culture through the execution of the Ace Way Of Retailing. Additionally, a successful Assistant Store Manager will demonstrate aggressive customer service at all times, effectively lead all store associates, and is responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
The Assistant Store Manager must have expertise in company culture, merchandising, shrink control, and operational aspects of the store.
A successful Assistant Store Manager must be knowledgeable of the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, competitors, and other specifics of the local market that may influence the business.
The Assistant Store Manager is a role model, a leader, a problem-solver, and a strategic thinker, who must manage her/his time to help achieve budgeted goals.
Day-to-Day Role Responsibilities:
- Direct employees during peak and slow traffic periods
- Resolve customer and employee complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner
- Responsible for assigned employees to include daily duties and projects, including constant monitoring and evaluation
- Develop a 2-week work schedule to be approved by the Store Manager
- Maintain an exemplary level of housekeeping throughout the entire store, including both public and nonpublic areas
- Monitor shrinkage and theft. Recommend ways to reduce theft and loss in the store
- Assist with returns and exchanges and authorize returns over $50
- Approve checks over $50 as a form of payment
- Be proficient in all store technology: ACEnet, Paladin, etc
- Arrange, make deliveries, and purchase supplies PRN
- Ensure that Ace On The Lake is the Helpful Place for Bemidji and surrounding communities
- Ensure aggressive and exceptional customer service is defined to associates and demonstrated as part of total store operations to exceed customer expectations
- Assist in achieving store budgeted goals through her or his key associates and/or her or his own actions
- Participate in local civic events and organizations
- Properly merchandising the retail sales floor to company set standards weekly and monthly
- Verify merchandise is received, stored, and merchandised in all departments according to established operational and safety procedures
- Shop or arrange for shopping of competitors. Adjust prices PRN
- Monitoring delivery procedures to ensure merchandise is loaded and delivered on time and customers coming to pick up merchandise are processed promptly and courteously
- Reporting any unusual occurrences promptly to the Store Manager. Also, acting to solve problems immediately that require immediate attention
- In the absence of the Store Manager, leading all associates by providing direction and feedback on a consistent basis to ensure the store is being operated according to company policies and standards
- Help to prepare sales floor and other associates for promotions and increased levels of responsibility
- Introduce new items to inventory, and provide all employees with information on new inventory that is HRV (High Retail Value) or QS (Quick Sale)
- Assist with training associates
- Helping create a team environment throughout the store
- Other functions as assigned by the Store Manager or company official.
An Assistant Store Manager must demonstrate excellent leadership and problem-solving skills. Be able to manage with limited supervision. They must have good oral/written communication skills in order to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and other associates. A successful Assistant Store Manager must understand aggressive and exceptional customer service and be team-oriented. They must have good management and organizational skills. Additionally, they must understand and interpret data presented in statistical or numerical form and be able to use it effectively in assessing and coordinating the merchandise and operational aspects of the store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. They must be detail oriented and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. They must be able to climb up and down ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., handle large odd-shaped items, and stock items in overhead areas. Finally, they must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Work Requirements:
- Salaried: Generally scheduled for 50 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.
- Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advanced notification and approval by the Store Manager
- Move throughout all areas of the store including the sales floor, receiving area, register areas, lawn, and garden, as well as the outside perimeter of the store with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
- Stand, sit, and/or walk continuously with or without reasonable accommodation and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break
- Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb (ladders, stairs), balance, and/or crouch on a daily basis to accomplish work activities
- Minimally must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance
- Supervisor Experience: more than 20 employees, 2+ years
- Hardware Retail Experience: 3+ years
- 1 year of experience performing manager-on-duty responsibilities, including management of daily store operations
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; or combined education and experience
