Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Development manages the overall operations for leadership development and assists with additional responsibilities within the Student Development department. This position is responsible for planning, promoting, and facilitating leadership education programs such as The Leadership Challenge, Global Leadership Retreat, Leadership Certificate program based on the Leadership Challenge Model, Strengths Quest, and other student leadership initiatives. They will assist in training student organization leaders, planning and executing large campus events, facilitation of assessment tools, and/or other Student Development initiatives. This position will also serve as the advisor to Student Government, Graduate Student Assembly, and the Student Leadership Advisory Board.
Reporting to the Director of Student Development, the Assistant Director will join a dynamic team. This position requires significant collaboration with many University departments which will require building and maintaining relationships. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse populations in a collegiate setting and demonstrate an understanding of student development theory and topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will also have experience working with student organizations and student leaders, developing programs, and advising/coaching students as well as demonstrate strong facilitation skills.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree; Three years’ experience in the specific functional area, supervisory experience; knowledge of student development theory; knowledge of residential programs, service learning programs, new student, orientation or other student life functional areas. Ability to work and manage collaboratively; experience with budget preparation & management; advanced written & oral communication skills; innovation & creativity.

Preferred Education and Experience
3 – 5 years of professional experience in Leadership Programs or Student Affairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Program development, facilitation, and assessment for Student Development programs with a focus on leadership development.
  • Advise student leadership groups.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student staff.
  • Budget forecasting and management.
  • Strategic planning related to Student Affairs and University goals.
Physical Activities Working Conditions Additional Information
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
