Assistant Director - Durham Sports Commission
Job description
The Durham Sports Commission (DSC) is a private, not-for-profit organization operated by Discover Durham to promote and market Durham County as a sports destination. The commission recruits sporting events and activities through business development programs and works to increase the capacity of local events to enhance economic impact and maximize utilization of facilities in Durham County.
The Assistant Director reports to the DSC Deputy Director. This position is responsible for managing DSC internal operations including organizational administration and oversight, project management for all DSC projects, overseeing the internship program, grants and incentives program, and is the lead for servicing of all bid-on and local events.
Position Details/Scope
There are nine (8) primary job functions of the Assistant Director, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Project manager for all projects
- Oversee the grants and incentives program
- Assist in event execution of all DSC owned/created events
- Oversee the volunteer program
- Oversee the internship program
- Oversee the CRM, facility, and economic impact databases
- Provide additional administrative support to the organization
- Support DSC staff as necessary
Specific Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead for all projects within the organization, including but not limited to, bid documents, facility development research, advertising, and owned and operated events.
- Serve as the key team member for the grants and incentives program, including but not limited to, coordination and execution of committee meetings, evaluation of the program, and oversight of the budget.
- Serve as the lead for all bid on events
- Serve as the lead contact for the volunteer program and manage event volunteers to support sporting events.
- Oversee the DSC's internship progam.
- Serve as the key team member on communication with hoteliers, restaurants, event owners, etc.
- Serve as the lead on Simpleview Database reports, Economic Impact reports, and other reports as needed.
- Provide administrative support to the DSC staff. This includes taking and disseminating meeting minutes, updates to budget areas, and creation of PowerPoint presentation to support the work of the DSC.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
- Baccalaureate degree
- Internal operations experience
- Project management experience
- Budget management experience
- Strong organizational, communication (phone/virtual/verbal/written), and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with professional tools such as Asana, Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Self-motivated
- Team oriented
- Ability to multi-task
- Organizational skills that will enable the managing of multiple projects
- Ability to work in an event environment that may require lifting and/or moving heavy objects
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
