Function:

To provide supervision and direction for the daily operations, policies and procedures related to the major functional areas within the accounting department which may include accounts payable, financial reporting, billing, and general accounting.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise accounting staff in the preparation of all monthly account reconciliations and reviewing these reconciliations for appropriateness and accuracy of accounting entries.
  • Preparation of allocations and entries related to the month end closing process
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end closing of general ledger system, which includes preparation, review, and distribution of financial statements and reports. Review financial reports for discrepancies and/or inconsistencies; research and resolve any related issues.
  • Responsible for preparation of accounting procedures and policies. Will assist the accounting team to ensure the procedures and policies are kept up to date and accurate.
  • Supervise accounting staff in the on-going daily process of accounts payable, which includes the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable invoices from receipt of invoices and purchase orders or invoicing attachments through payment and posting to the general ledger. The supervision of accounts payable also includes the review of all federal and state legislation regarding sales and excise taxes to ensure Eckerd is in compliance with the applicable laws.
  • Administration and maintenance of bank accounts.
  • Prepare schedules for year-end audit and work with auditors as needed to answer questions and obtain requested documentation. System administrator for the accounting software which includes adding new users, maintaining the chart of accounts, preparing financial reports in the software, and maintaining the administrative allocation.
  • Responsible for oversight of the fixed assets including approval of capital purchases, tracking of the capital budget and review of monthly reconciliations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited College or University, in Accounting required. CPA license preferred.
Seven to ten years accounting experience in an accounting environment. Experience in government contract strongly preferred. Five years of supervisory experience required.
Valid State driver’s license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record.

Additional Requirements:
Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal; to assume responsibility without direct supervision; to exercise initiative, judgment, decision making, and flexibility; to listen empathetically, and to prioritize workload. General office skills include computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and accounting software. Experience in Great Plains software strongly preferred. Capable of functioning at a fast pace and maintain accuracy and organization while doing so.

Working Conditions:
Ability to sit at desk for extended periods of time and to tolerate extended periods of data entry. This position involves frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and kneeling. Occasionally, position involves sitting, stooping, carrying, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Applicant must be able to see, hear, and speak.

Environmental Demands:
Position requires ability to spend 5% of work time outside and 95% of work time indoors; ability to withstand moderate noise levels, including voice levels 90% of work time; ability to work in high temperature settings during the summer months; and ability to work in low temperature settings in winter months.


Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
