Compensation Range: $65,000

Overview/Position Summary
WSU Tech, a leading educational institution in aviation, is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Chief Flight Instructor for its Part 141 flight program. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Chief Flight Instructor with assigned duties within the flight program and as outlined.

Responsibilities
  • Reports directly to the Chief Flight Instructor, and in the absence of the Chief Flight Instructor will assume responsibility of the day-to-day operation of the program as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Being a point of contact for flight or ground instructors and students as required during and outside of normal business hours including weekends.
  • Conduct stage and phase checks as assigned.
  • Assist in supervision of all other program faculty positions.
  • Help implement and supervise standardized operating procedures by flight instructors and students as outlined in the SOPM.
  • Maintains academic rigor.
  • TSA Compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all FAA requirements.
  • Works with record specialists, dispatchers, instructors, and maintenance personnel.
  • Assists with negotiations of professional pilot program equipment, supply, instructional and training needs.
Teaching and Instruction
  • Teach courses as assigned.
  • Develops, revises, and/or recommends curriculum changes that meet the objectives of the course/program and improve student learning.
  • Ensures that each program/class meets the WSUTech Course Standard, includes all appropriate curricular components, utilizes effective teaching methods/practices (pedagogy), and reflects current field practices.
  • Reviews, evaluates and recommends student textbooks and learning materials.
  • Teaches all classes according to an approved course syllabus, ensuring that assigned classes are held as scheduled. Holds the final exam at the time scheduled unless permission to deviate has been approved by appropriate program leadership

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred
  • Hold a current FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
Basic Qualification
  • Passes and maintains FAA Assistant Chief Flight Instructor approval.
  • Hold a current FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) rating.
  • Hold a current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-Engine rating.
  • Hold at least a current FAA Third-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Have at least one year of experience as a full-time flight instructor.
  • Have at least 500 hours Pilot in Command time, including at least 500 hours of dual instruction given or one year experience and 250 hours PIC.
  • G1000 experience.
  • Have experience in managing and supervising flight instructors and flight training operations.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualification
  • Have experience in developing and implementing flight training curricula.
  • Experience with a flight school scheduling system

  • FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor
  • FAA Advanced Ground Instructor
  • FAA Instrument Ground Instructor
  • FAR 141 Stage Check Instructor
  • FAR 141 Assistant Chief Flight Instructor experience
  • FAR 135 or FAR 121 on demand or scheduled airline pilot experience
  • FAR 135 or FAR 121 Scheduled Airline or on demand charter Instructor
  • FAR 135 or FAR 121 schedule airline or on demand Check Airman experience
  • FAA Flight Instructor Tail Wheel endorsement
  • Previous teaching or training experience in adult education
  • Must be available for required course assignments.
