Hindman Auction’s one of the nation's leading and fastest growing fine art auction houses, is looking to add a full-time Art Handler in the Chicago office. Hindman is now represented in 14 cities in the United States and operates five salerooms, more than any other auction house in the country.
The primary focus of an Art Handler is to properly handle all incoming and outgoing property and ensure proper storage. Assist Exhibition Supervisor with highlight exhibition set-ups and breakdowns to ensure property and fine art is displayed at its highest potential. Passionately supports the Hindman brand in daily interactions with clients and Hindman team members. Follows the five principles of the client interaction guidelines in all communications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with receiving and proper handling of all incoming and outgoing property received from consignors and purchased by buyers (including, but not limited to, fine furniture, fine art, books, manuscripts, decorative arts, and other important collections.
  • Follow Hindman Property Handling guidelines.
  • Travel locally to locations to pack, collect or deliver consignments to/from our offices or warehouse.
  • Assist with inventory of incoming and outgoing property and maintain company inventory database.
  • Unpack/pack and safely store property,
  • Support and assist the photography department during photo shoots
  • Assist with the set up and breakdown of highlight exhibitions for all upcoming auction previews (hanging art, moving furniture and display cases, etc.).
  • Assist the Property Department with setting up for all company events and functions (includes setting up and cleaning up after events).
  • Work with the Shipping Department to prepare and help with packing or all outgoing property.
  • Perform other duties as required or deemed necessary to meet the needs of the department and company as a whole.
Successful Candidate will possess:
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree a plus
  • One year or more of experience packing all types of property, from small objects to flat works, art handling experience
  • Experience in gallery installations and in hanging various types of flat properties
  • Basic computer skills MS Office: Outlook, MS Word, Excel
  • Strong communication and time management capabilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively
  • Ability to pack or unpack, lift, box and crate or uncrate property weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Use of dock equipment and tools (pallet jacks, crowbars, material- handling equipment)
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends on as-needed basis
