Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention advocacy group in the country, is seeking a passionate, dedicated professional for a full-time, 2-year research fellowship. The nexus of political extremism and gun violence presents a growing threat to the safety and freedom of American democracy. As an Armed Extremism Research Fellow on Everytown's Investigations team, you will join a multi-disciplinary group helping Everytown examine and counteract the pressing issue of extremists using firearms as tools for violence and intimidation, as well as organizing and recruitment. The Investigations team is part of the Law & Policy Department, which works to develop and advance Everytown's policy positions to reduce gun violence in communities across the country based on the best available evidence and practices. The position can be based in either our New York City or Washington, D.C. office.

In this role, you will:

  • Compile and conduct research relating to the use of guns in extremist violence and organizing
  • Contribute to drafts of analytically rigorous memos and other work products
  • Monitor court dockets and federal/state/local regulatory filings
  • Gather and analyze original quantitative and qualitative data

You should have:

  • 2+ years of relevant professional or graduate-level academic experience, graduate degree preferred
  • Demonstrated research abilities, including open source data collection and analysis, press monitoring, and working with data sets
  • Strong understanding of the contemporary landscape of extremism, including prominent narratives and figures within those movements
  • Ability to translate research into actionable steps for Everytown's educational and advocacy priorities
  • Organized and able to communicate complex fact patterns or concepts clearly in writing
  • Possess and maintain a strong knowledge of current events affecting the gun violence prevention
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A self-starter who is willing to take initiative on projects
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
  • Excellent judgment and communication skills
  • Hybrid work schedule and comfort working in a busy open-plan office
  • Flexibility to work beyond regular work hours when needed

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000 per year. Everytown offers a generous benefits package including Medical, Dental and Vision, PTO, 401K Match, Education Assistance and more.
