Aquatics Director

Westtown School is seeking an experienced Aquatics Director to lead all aspects of the Westtown Aquatics Club program and to serve as the school’s Varsity Swim Head Coach.

The Aquatics Director is responsible for all program planning, administration, and day-to-day operations, as well as the hiring, training, and supervision of all aquatics program staff. The Director works collaboratively with the coaching staff, students, and others to create positive and engaging experiences for a wide range of student-athletes. In collaboration with the Director of Auxiliary Programs, the Director is responsible for managing the program budget and creating opportunities for program growth.
The Varsity Swim Head Coach instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary to realize a high level of individual and team success. Under the Head Coach’s leadership, student-athletes learn and model good sportsmanship, self-discipline, self-confidence, a healthy attitude toward winning,* and *a sense of pride in their individual and team accomplishments.
Due to the nature of this position, the Aquatics Director will be expected to work evenings and weekends in support of the program and team competition schedule.
Essential Responsibilities- Aquatics

  • Lead the overall vision, direction, and success of Westtown Aquatics;
  • Develop and execute dynamic aquatics programming for a wide range of student-athletes;
  • Supervise the daily operations of the pool and aquatic facility, ensuring that appropriate water health and safety standards are consistently maintained;
  • Serve as the Meet Director for all home swim meets, including securing timers/volunteers, hiring officials, creating meet files, and setting up scoring equipment;
  • Provide professional development, including lifeguard skills training, and other continuing education opportunities;
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Auxiliary Programs to achieve short and long-term program goals;
  • Demonstrate effective communication and judgment skills to ensure swimmer engagement, safety, and accident prevention;
  • Maintain proper pool chemical levels, water quality, and overall pool cleanliness;
  • Implement and manage all pool scheduling, managing all relations and rental agreements with pool renters;
  • Ensure that all coaches and swimmers are registered with the proper affiliation;.
  • Track revenue, expenses, and swimmer's accounts;
  • Manage student swim certification.

Essential Responsibilities- Varsity Swim Head Coach*

  • Plan and implement all team practices during the season;
  • Responsible for team equipment and uniforms;
  • Maintain regular communication with student-athletes and parents;
  • Attend all coaches and team meetings;
  • Evaluate student-athletes and select team;
  • Remain current with appropriate sports theories and techniques;
  • Oversee assistant coaches and student manager;
  • Manage score-keeping and recording;
  • Assist with the recruitment and enrollment of qualified student-athletes;
  • Manage team discipline, collaborating with the Athletic Director when necessary;
  • Write and submit student comments in a timely manner;
  • Work collaboratively with Athletic Trainers in support of student-athletes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant coaching experience at the secondary, club, or collegiate level
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Lifeguard Certification and USA Swimming Certification
  • Certified as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operation (CPO)
  • Proven skills in program planning, development, and revenue generation
  • Experience with budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management to produce positive net income
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively manage a wide range of situations
  • Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive and supportive environment that values and encourages differences
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools
  • A strong character with a team-oriented spirit, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community
  • A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices
