Management level in animal care and control under general managerial direction from the Animal Resource Director requiring thorough knowledge of management and business principles, for Montgomery County and direct operational activities of county Animal Resource Center.
Plans, organizes and directs operational activities of animal care and control for Montgomery County. The animal shelter manager is responsible for managing the daily activities at an animal shelter to ensure that all operations run smoothly. Duties may include supervising staff members and volunteers, educating shelter visitors about how to properly care for animals, and managing the budget. Serves as a county Animal Resource Operations Manager, preventing and resolving conflicts. This work is performed in the Animal Resource Center managing the day to day operations. On routine basis investigates and enforces state/local laws. In consultation with the Sheriff and staff, develops and implements practices and procedures. Must be willing to participate in all aspects of kennel operations, including but not limited to, customer service, transport, cleaning, purchasing supplies, intake, outreach, adoptions, redemptions, licensing, euthanasia, and animal behavior modification and enrichment. Works closely with other animal welfare and community organizations, promotes the Animal Shelter in a positive direction, and is instrumental in media relations, fundraisers and outreach programs. Manages animal shelter employees and volunteers. Participates in selecting new personnel. Provides training, evaluates performance, responds to grievances, and recommends personnel actions. Part-time Employees (Non-Benefits Eligible) (20 hours or less per week): Benefits include Long Term Sick Leave Accrual, Paid Personal Leave, and holiday pay for hours scheduled to work on holidays.
Seasonal Employees: Benefits include Sick Leave accrued at 4.6 hours for every eighty 80 hours in active
pay status. Seasonal employees scheduled to work 40 hours during their period of employment will accrue vacation in the same manner as regular full-time employees and can use their vacation after completion of twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active pay status. Part-time Seasonal employees (scheduled to work less than 40 hours) do not accrue vacation.
Intermittent and Temporary Employees: Long-Term Sick Leave accrual is based on hours worked.
