Firm Risk Management

Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley (MS) to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.

Background on the Position

The position resides within the Firm Risk Management's Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Portfolio Management team of the Tailored Lending division. The team is dedicated to managing a portfolio Credit Facilities to Tailored Lending Borrowers (Ultra High Net Worth Individuals) collateralized primarily by Real Estate. The Associate role involves evaluating credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The group also assigns Internal Credit Ratings, establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board, and monitors/reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.

Primary Responsibilities

To oversee the timely management of a diverse portfolio of CRE relationship related loans (inclusive of real estate secured liquid secured and unsecured exposure), including:

    Ongoing monitoring of financial condition, the performance of the Borrowers/Guarantors, covenant compliance, and the value/condition of the collateral.
    Conducting due diligence including financial statement, rent roll, and collateral analysis (appraisals / environmental)
    Timely completion of Annual Reviews, Renewals, and Amendments for loans under management.
    Timely recommendation of changes in credit classification and risk rating to Team Members with requisite authority.
    Manage the expectations of the business unit regarding turn times of transaction requests through effective communication with business unit and the respective manager(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

    Bachelor's Degree required
    0-2 years of lending and credit analysis in private bank or commercial bank preferred with focus on Commercial Real Estate
    Detail and process oriented, with exceptional organizational skills
    Strong oral and written communication skills
    Ability to navigate various internal systems and proficient in Microsoft office
    Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage expectations
    Good collaboration skills in a team-oriented environment
