Duties and Responsibilities
Position assists the Curator of History in the development of an exhibition on the American Indian peoples of the Northern Rocky Mountain region. Position will be responsible for maintaining a project calendar to ensure the timely completion of project tasks and assist in making and maintaining contacts with tribal partners and consultants. Position will conduct independent research and write tribal histories and other topics for potential inclusion in the exhibition. The position will also assist the Education Department in the development of educational programming associated with the exhibition.

Well-qualified candidates must be energetic, innovative, reflective, flexible, resourceful, enthusiastic, and with a strong interest in presenting the diverse and complex cultures of American Indian peoples.

Some travel will be required as needed.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
A keen interest in a field appropriate for the position such as education, Indigenous/Native American studies, environmental sciences, anthropology, history, etc.
Relevant knowledge about American Indian ways of knowing
Relevant knowledge of basic computer operation

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
A bachelor’s or higher degree in a field appropriate for the position such as education, Indigenous/Native American studies, environmental sciences, anthropology, history, etc.
Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a diverse range of groups and institutions, including schools, museums, non-profits, and tribal nations to develop and implement educational programs

The Successful Candidate Will
Understanding of, and commitment to, justice, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and diversity practices
Detailed-oriented while handling multiple projects and deadlines
Deep knowledge of American Indian ways of knowing and knowledge of contemporary communities and life ways
Close relationships with tribal members and/or representatives
Interest in museum work
Excellent communicator with ability to work independently and with teams
Enthusiastic and curious about museum work and the themes of this exhibition.
Strong research and public programming skills
Knowledge and appreciation of traditional and contemporary American Indian art and made objects
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
