Job description
We are seeking an Assistant General Counsel for our Legal Team in our Lenexa, KS office.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide advice regarding the Federal Crop Insurance Act and attendant rules and regulations
- Research applicable corporate laws, rulings and regulations and determine how they apply to AgriSompo.
- Provide assistance and support in litigation and arbitration matters.
- Help ensure the organization maintains ongoing regulatory compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
- Compliance with state and federal regulatory responsibilities of the Company’s operations, including filings with state and federal insurance regulators, drafting public comments to proposed federal regulations, participation in state and federal audits, and drafting documents responsive to governmental requests.
- Review, draft and negotiate corporate contracts.
- Assist with corporate governance, preparation of materials to be presented to officers and directors and drafting other corporate documents.
- Ensuring proper corporate policies and procedures are in place, review and drafting amendments to corporate governance documents, corporate policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide ongoing legal support for all areas of responsibility as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Juris Doctor degree with excellent academic credentials.
· 5+ years of experience at a law firm or in-house public company environment with a sophisticated compliance and/or government practice.
· Experience and knowledge in the insurance industry and with state and federal insurance laws and regulations.
· Experience in corporate compliance.
· Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
· Excellent project management skills, well organized, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
· A high-level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Team oriented and able to work collaboratively and effectively with business clients and other legal department members across different geographies and cultures.
· Professional demeanor and team player with high degree of confidentiality.
· An agricultural background, experience with United States Department of Agriculture programs, and/or experience advising international clients are a plus.
