HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8am-12pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the Adventure Zone Captain, the Adventure Zone Crew will be responsible for assisting in planning, developing, and implementing all curriculum and program activities in the area of Youth Development in the Adventure Zone. The staff guides the development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching and healthy environment. The child watch attendant, working as part of the child watch team, will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide careful, attentive supervision and is alert at all times.
• Help to maintain the appropriate staff to child ratios, as specified by the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver
• Assist with the day to day operations of the Adventure Zone, meeting all YMCA policies.
• Provide positive continual interaction with all children in the program
• Maintain open and positive communication with parents and members.
• Facilitate a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play and welcomes children.
• Helps to implement classroom curriculum, activities, experiences and routines under the guidance of the Adventure Zone Captain.
• Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others. Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor.
• Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
• Maintain a clean and safe YMCA and program center. Complete daily cleaning responsibilities. Take initiative to clean up/repair areas.
• Be dressed in appropriate attire and wear nametag at all times.
• Attend and remain current on all mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
• Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign.
• Any other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and will frequently use arms and hands to reach.
• The employee may be asked to lift up to 50 pounds.
• The employee is required to use close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth perception.
• Acute hearing skills are required.
• The employee is frequently exposed to a moderate level and occasional high noise levels. The employee may occasionally be subject to outdoor weather conditions.

• Minimum Age: 16
• Must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of the children in child watch including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level, physical education activities such as running, jumping, lifting children.
• Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
• Must have a minimum of 3 months experience working with young children (babysitting, church Sunday school, etc.)
• Must have current CPR and First Aid certifications
