is looking for an Advanced Practice Provider role at our Central Austin location!


Purpose:
The Advanced Practice Provider (Family Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Physician Assistant) provides care and treatment to patients with Endocrine disorders within scope of practice and TD&E guidelines.


Essential Functions:

  • Provides patient-centered care for the treatment of Endocrine disorders and the promotion of health, following TD&E protocols.
  • Meets patient encounter requirements.
  • Obtains patient health and medical history. Performs physical exams (i.e. Diabetic foot and eye exams) and screenings (i.e. Nephropathy, Tobacco use). Performs or orders appropriate preventive and/or diagnostic tests or procedures (i.e. CGMS, Ultrasound), with appropriate follow up of abnormal labs/tests. Interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Formulates differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results. Works with supervising physicians to develops and implement treatment plans.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits. Provides patient education (i.e. diabetes education) aimed at preventing health problems/maintaining health.
  • Selects appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Performs non-invasive procedures (i.e. injection training).
  • Refers patients to ancillary services including, but not limited to, Clinical Research, Next Step MD, Cardiovascular Risk Program, Professional and Personal CGM, and Fibroscan, as appropriate.
  • Updates patient medical chart with diagnosis, medications, treatment, and patient education. Documents services during the encounter or within 24 hours of encounter. Ensures that medical record documentation supports the level of service reported to a payer and meets medical necessity requirements. Ensures ultrasound reports are appropriately amended to include a diagnostic impression or differential diagnosis and disposition/plan indicating specifically what action is recommended.
  • Adheres to medical knowledge and practice-based learning and improvement expectations. Completes professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations and annual Continuing Medical Education (CME's) on an annual basis.
  • Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and statutes. Maintains and follows standard quality, safety, environmental, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Attends and participates in mandatory Provider Meetings and Lunch and Learns presented by the physicians. Participates in additional meetings/training sessions as required.


Additional Non-Essential Functions:

  • Acts as a Sub-Investigator for Clinical Research Trials.
  • May be asked to provide precept training to physician extender students.
  • Additional duties or projects as assigned.

  • Demonstrates core knowledge about established and evolving biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care in their area of practice.
  • Understanding of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions, and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.
  • Understanding of common safety hazards and precautions to establish and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Attention to detail; organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word and other computer functions including electronic medical records (EMR).


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required from accredited school. Master of Science in Nursing as a FNP or CNS; or Physician Assistant Program required from accredited school. Must hold active license in Texas with national certification by either the American Nurses Credentials Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP); or National Commission Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
  • At least 3-5 years of experience preferred with prior Endocrine and/or Diabetes experience.
  • BLS Certification and/or CPR required.
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator upon completion of required patient contact hours. Must maintain licensures and complete 40 CME hours annually.


Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Fast-paced clinical setting with minimal to moderate noise levels. Combination of exam rooms and medical offices. Some exposure to communicable diseases and conditions common to a clinic environment. Exposure to sharp needles and other medical equipment.


Requires sitting approximately 5-8 hours per full-time shift and walking and standing approximately 1-3 hours per full-time shift. Common use of finger dexterity. Occasionally requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 pounds. Very rarely requires assisting with patient lift/transfer up to 50 pounds. May occasionally reach overhead up to arm’s length. Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stress in emergency situations.


Additional Information:

Occasional travel to other locations as needed for coverage, meetings, or training.
