The Parenting Education program uses its network of seven (7) cooperative preschools to offer a unique educational experience consisting of a child-centered preschool laboratory setting with adult-centered lectures and discussion groups. This includes a skilled faculty plan and implemented learning opportunities for both parents and children. More than 500 families from Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, and surrounding communities enroll each quarter in the College’s Parenting Education coops. This position provides an opportunity to work with a team of committed professionals and involved parents in an innovative program that combines parenting education with child centered practices. Under the general direction of the Executive Dean of Business, Communication Studies & Social Sciences, the Parenting Education Coordinator will provide leadership, vision, direction, and supervision to the Parenting Education Program.DESCRIPTION OF POSITION/MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYThe Parenting Education Coordinator will work closely with the seven cooperative preschools to serve as a liaison between the college and co-op leadership. They will assist with budget management, hiring new program instructors, attend program meetings and partner to develop new courses.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Monitor and coordinate all aspects of the College’s Parenting Education Program while applying Early Childhood Education and Parenting Education theories, principles, and operational practicesAct as a liaison between the College and affiliated Parenting Cooperative Programs at seven (7) off-campus sites; significant travel to sites located throughout northern King and southern Snohomish counties is requiredProvide consultation to the Cooperative Preschool Boards and Directors on operational, personnel, and membership issuesAssure compliance with applicable laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations Work closely with the Dean of Social Sciences, Library, and Parent Child Center on monitoring program enrollment, budget, evaluation, and goalsFoster a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and competencePromote cultural responsiveness in interactions with students, faculty, and staff who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities, ethnicities, socioeconomic levels, identities, and educational experiencesAssist in hiring and orienting new program instructors; observe, assess, and evaluate Parenting Education faculty as provided in the faculty collective bargaining agreementServe as a professional resource for and support professional development of Parenting Education facultyOrganize and facilitate Parenting Education faculty meetings and annual retreatsAdvise the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) by regularly attending PAC meetings and activitiesAttend Organization for Parenting Education Program (OPEP) meetings and in-servicesAct as liaison with other external agencies, including local school districts, community organizations, insurance agencies, etc.Develop new and innovative courses through partnerships with other organizationsAdvocate/promote the Program within the College, to the public, and to school districtsWork with the College’s Communications & Marketing Office to promote Program activities and events; represent the Program at College meetings and eventsCommunicate and collaborate with other programs within the CollegeCoordinate reviews of employment and rental agreements, policy handbooks, by-laws, and end-of-year financial reportsCoordinate the Parenting Education Program assessment matrix, accreditation, and other planning documents as requested by the College

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited baccalaureate institutionThree (3) years of progressively responsible experience working in Early Childhood Education, or one (1) year Parenting Education Cooperative experienceKNOWLEDGE OF: Specific familiarity with RCW 43.216.710 (Child care services) and RCW 43.216.687 (Child care-Required postings-Disclosures of complaints) Microsoft Office applications such as Access, Excel, Outlook, and Word programsTechniques for effective presentations and communication in a multicultural environmentEarly childhood education theories, principles and practices SKILL IN: Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsivenessEstablishing and maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levelsTime management, multitasking, and coordinating work outcomes/activities with multiple partnersInterpreting applicable laws, regulations, and policiesPreparing clear and concise written materialsEffectively communicating (orally and listening) with individuals at all levels inside and/or outside of the CollegeHandling difficult or sensitive situations using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). Administrators are assigned to work on campus, noting there may be some opportunities to work remotely based on program or area needs. If authorized for limited remote work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. When working on-campus, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, using the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. This position also works work weekends and evenings when appropriate or needed is required. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY: This is a 50% administrative/exempt 10-month annually contracted position with initial salary placement determined by the College dependent upon education/experience. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
