Job description
The Oglethorpe University Physics Program is searching for instructors for Spring 2023 to teach algebra-based General Physics II (PHY-102) lectures and/or laboratory sections for both General Physics II (PHY-102L) and College Physics II (PHY-202L).
Oglethorpe University is a small and growing liberal arts institution. Dedication to students and quality teaching are highly valued here. Our campus is located in the urban environment of Brookhaven, Georgia, with easy access to the cultural offerings of Atlanta and its surrounding cities (e.g., about 15 minutes to the Midtown Arts District via the MARTA rail system).
The university currently enrolls a diverse population of nearly 1,500 students who represent more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpes students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups, whose work furthers the institutions diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
The class times for the spring semester are set, however specific teaching assignments will be based on instructor availability and interest. The General Physics II lectures meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. All laboratory sections meet in the afternoon, from 2-5PM on Monday through Thursday. In addition, the instructor must be on campus and available for a minimum of one office hour for each section taught.
Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics or a related field preferred. A record of prior successful experience as a teacher or laboratory instructor is desirable.
Compensation
$3300 (4j-credit course)
Starting and Ending Dates
The first class day is Wednesday, February 1st. The last day of classes is Tuesday, May 9th. Final grades are due by Tuesday May 23rd.
