Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Faculty at UNCSA are expected to engage in activities that are typical in an academic setting, such as advising and supervising students outside the classroom, attending faculty and production meetings, participating in service activities such as faculty governance and admissions, inviting guest artists to campus for workshops and presentations, visiting student film sets, and helping to develop new courses, programs and methods of instruction. The School of Filmmaking promotes a broad knowledge of the arts and cinematic disciplines in both faculty and students.
Faculty are encouraged to continue professional activity in order to remain at the forefront of technologies and practices.

Located in Winston Salem, UNCSA is a conservatory-style school and one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina system. The university community consists of more than 1,300 students ranging from middle school to graduate school. The School of Filmmaking is one of the five collegiate level training programs (along with Dance, Design & Production, Drama, and Music). Established in 1993, the School of Filmmaking uniquely combines rigorous professional training with aesthetic explorations. The UNCSA School of Filmmaking facilities, equipment, and resources are unparalleled. The program’s mission is to train talented students for artistically gratifying professional careers in the film and television industries and stresses the collaborative nature of filmmaking in a rigorous conservatory atmosphere. Curriculum and production modalities encourage students to become artists and crafts persons who understand and appreciate existing trends yet are willing to take risks and challenge current paradigms. The School of Filmmaking’s goal is to produce the “complete” filmmaker – a storyteller of unusual vision who knows how to use and value the components of the filmmaking arts. The School of Filmmaking offers a BFA in Animation, Cinematography, Directing, Editing & Sound Design, Producing, Production Design & Visual Effects, and Screenwriting, and an MFA in Creative Producing, Film Music Composition, and Screenwriting.
Description of Work
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) is seeking an imaginative and innovative educator who has been active in the industry and is interested in joining our faculty as an adjunct professor in the Cinematography Department of the School of Filmmaking for this upcoming Fall Semester, beginning late August of 2022.
The faculty member’s main responsibility will be to teach undergraduate courses which focus on the technique and the art of cinematography and related areas, with an emphasis on either film lighting or digital filmmaking and color correction. This is achieved through formal training in the classroom, workshops, and one-on-one mentoring.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must have professional cinematography or gaffing credits in feature films, television, music videos, commercials, and/or documentary films. They may also have earned a Master of Fine Arts degree,
or a Masters degree with 18 credit hours in the field;
or possess an equivalent combination of teaching and/or professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have significant professional experience in film production, multiple credits as a Cinematographer or in a related position, qualifications in other disciplines within the cinematic arts, and preferably previous teaching experience.
UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.
