ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR
FT/REGULAR
NE - LEVEL 3
SALARY: $13.42
GENERAL DEFINITION: The purpose of this position is responsible for developing and facilitating recreational groups and programs which meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of the elderly participants of the Zuni Senior Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the direction of the Elderly Services Program Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No Supervisory Duties.
DUTIES:
Plan, organize and implement a variety of activities for the Program with other agencies
- Plans and manages a monthly calendar of events for the Zuni Senior Center.
- Assess the needs and interest of Elderly and plan activities accordingly.
- Coordinates, all arts and crafts, recreational, and social activities (e.g., bake sales, field trips, shopping trips, birthday parties, weekly exercises, and special occasions).
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and enjoyable manner.
- Prepares written reports, and other documents.
- Writes reports on activities on a monthly basis for funding agencies and reports to local government.
- Maintains program statistical reporting on a monthly basis regarding activities, transportation, information, and assistance.
- Completes all required documentation for planned activities with elders (i.e. liability waivers for exercise, transportation and picture taking).
- Coordinates, and decorates the dining/multipurpose room for special occasions.
- Coordinates Senior Olympic Games for Zuni Elders with state program.
- Works with National Relief Charities (NRC) on projects for Zuni.
Serves as the public relations contact person for the program.
- Writes a monthly newsletter and makes public service announcements on the radio station.
- Keeps the community elders informed of all current elderly issues and what is happening at the Zuni Senior Center.
- Informing elders of activities and encouraging participation.
- Attends meetings regarding activities for elders with other programs and agencies.
- Drives and chaperones elders to conferences and other field trips (i.e. New Mexico Indian Council on Aging quarterly meetings and New Mexico State Agency on Aging State Aging Conference).
Performs other duties as assigned or requested by the immediate supervisor.
- Responsible for keeping assigned van clean inside and outside.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and understanding of the aging process to meet the physical and emotional needs of the Elderly for engaging participation. Ability to develop and implement creative activities. Ability to work well with others in a team setting. Ability to plan and coordinate activities. Must have organizational skills. Ability to communicate in English (verbally and in writing) and in Zuni (verbally). Must demonstrate sensitivity to disabilities and impairments when planning activities for elders. Demonstrate a positive, professional appearance and attitude, sensitivity to Elder s issues and feelings. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, elders and their families, and the general public.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED with two (2) years work experience with the elderly or in the area of social services and recreational activities or a related field.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES: Must have a valid New Mexico Driver s License with no DWI/DUI convictions within the past three (3) years. Driving is an essential part of the duties.
- First Aid/CPR Certified - Must obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Defensive Driving Course Training – Must obtain within 90 days of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. The position may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. The position requires minimal agility and dexterity.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Position is subject to Pre-Employment drug testing. Position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug screening for duration of employment, in compliance with the Pueblo of Zuni Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy. Must undergo and successfully pass a thorough character background check and FBI Fingerprint check. Must have a pre-employment physical examination, including a Tuberculin Skin Test. Must be able to travel/drive and chaperone senior citizens on trips during and after regular working hours in a flexible schedule.
