The World Surf League (“WSL”) is dedicated to celebrating the world's best surfing on the world's best waves through a variety of best-in-class audience platforms. The WSL is a truly global sports and media company with regional offices in Australia, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and Europe. In 2016, Kelly Slater Wave Company (“KSWC”), joined the WSL as an innovative wave technology company. KSWC is the first to develop a formula that combines cutting-edge science, engineering, and design to create the longest, open-barrel, high-performance wave in existence. In 2018, WSL announced the creation of WSL Studios, focused on being the home of live competitive surf content and the premier place to create short-form, TV series, documentaries and feature films oriented around surfing, surf-lifestyle and ocean conservancy.

THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE TEAM

WSL is looking to expand the Accounting Team with the newly created Accounts Payable Specialist position who will own the Accounts Payable Accounting Function. The position will report to the WSL Director of Accounting, Assistant Controller. Controllership is a fun and collaborative Accounting Team and the Accounts Payable Specialist is a critical member of the team and an integral part of the global organization. This position will work directly with organization-wide cross-functional business partners and is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the organization’s business and to support our exciting global expansion. This position provides excellent professional and career growth opportunities. This is a hybrid position with 3 days in the office on Tue/Wed/ Thurs.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Transactional

• Participate in the input, approval and processing of vendor invoices, return to vendor documentation, staff member expense reports, new vendor set up, and the weekly payment runs including check, ACH, and wires.
• Enter and review A/P entries to ensure accuracy of posted invoices and supporting documentation
• Monitors supplier account details for late charges, missing invoices and other irregularities; update supplier accounts as needed
• Actively participates in month-end close processes, booking journal entries and providing appropriate detail level review and analysis
• Initiate solutions for issues that come up throughout various AP processes
• Perform month-end bank reconciliation and roll-forward of related balance sheet accounts
• Complete and file 1099’s annually
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting and undertake special projects as requested

Strategic

• Build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve problems that support the financial health of the business
• Actively participates in weekly treasury and cash management
• Identify and lead initiatives to support finance transformation to drive more efficiency, accuracy and scalability within the Accounts Payable function

Compliance

• Ensure a strong system of internal controls in accounts payable processes consistent with Best Practices
• Identify and lead process improvements related to the A/P area including ongoing system implementations and upgrades
• Support external audit requirements by preparation of requested audit information, including process walk-throughs, sample evidence, analytics and responding to audit queries

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS THAT WILL WAVES AT WSL!

• BS in Accounting or related field
• 2+ years of practical Accounts Payable experience
• Strong working knowledge with enterprise-level accounting software and AP routing/approval systems (e.g. Netsuite/Concur or similar system)
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; confidence in interacting with external and internal partners in a knowledgeable and helpful manner to deliver results that exceed customer satisfaction
• Experience in a global organization, preferred
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines
• Well-developed analytical, problem solving and communication skills
• Ability to exercise judgement in complex and new situations
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; specifically, features of Excel

Salary Range: $50,000.00- $70,000.00 based on relevant experience
