POM ACO is a Basic Track E Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization (MSSP ACO) comprised of physicians and hospitals across the state of Michigan serving more than 80,000 Medicare Beneficiaries. POM ACO’s mission is to collaborate with patients, providers and communities to improve population health through coordinated, high quality care at a lower cost.
Organizational Relationships
- Direct reporting relationship to the Population Health Executive of Michigan Medicine
- Partner with department leaders throughout Michigan Medicine including:
- Quality Analytics
- Office of General Counsel
- Compliance
- Partner with leaders of the organizations participating in POM ACO
- Supervise the externally-facing POM ACO staff
- Collaboration with other individuals and departments throughout Michigan Medicine, as well as other POM ACO member organizations is necessary for this role to be successful

Responsibilities*
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the POM ACO staff to ensure compliance with CMS program requirements
- Collaborate with ACO Executive, ACO Medical Director and POM ACO Board to set organization strategy and execute on key initiatives
- Collaborate will POM ACO Board and Committee chairs to set agendas and execute on determined action items
- Ensure consistent and open communication with CMS Coordinator on all topics necessary for ACO compliance and program success
- Maintain compliance with all CMS MSSP rules and regulations, complete necessary filings in a timely manner
- Manage POM ACO budget and expenses to ensure efficient operation of the program
- Manage personnel and processes to maintain data security
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Key responsibilities include:
- Executive-level spokesperson, internal advocate and administrative decision maker for POM ACO
- Active participant in Strategic Development and partner-wide ACO initiatives
- Foster teamwork, building strengths and encouraging the sharing of ideas, thoughts and opinions so all partners have a voice and feel part of the whole
- Engage and listen to partners to hear feedback, recommend solutions, achieve consensus
- Model Michigan Medicine’s and POM ACO’s institutional values. Build collaborative relationships and promote a culture of teamwork, service, and excellence
- Share key performance indicators and information to leadership and key constituents
- Coordinate intersecting work, as it arises, across the POM ACO Board, committees, project managers, and external partners
Required Qualifications*
Education
- A master’s degree in health care administration, business administration, finance or related field required
Experience
- 5+ years related experience including 5+ years in leadership role for business unit or support organization

- Excellent interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with physician partners, individuals and/or teams, across disciplines
- Desire to work and lead in a highly matrixed and collaborative environment requiring transparency and teamwork to accomplish nearly all tasks
- Demonstrated skill in change management
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong financial and analytic skills
- Demonstrated experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Experience with Medicare program management, health plan leadership or health plan development or provider contract management will be highly valued
- Ability to think strategically, implement plans and manage performance expectations
- Progressive success leading clinical, administrative and finance-related functions within a health care setting. Individuals with experience in an academic medical center, higher education setting, or major teaching hospital will be strongly valued
- Exceptional ability to collaborate with internal and external partners including faculty, clinical and executive-level leadership to effectively navigate group-level challenges to accomplish program goals
- Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow and meet operational deadlines in a complex organization
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
