The Academic and Career Planning Center is seeking candidates to fill an academic and career advisor position. The advisor will provide academic advising for a portfolio of USD students, both on-campus and online. Additionally, the advisor will assist our Career Advisor/Coordinator of Employer Relations with event planning, presentations, and career advising. Advisors are also expected to lead a first-year seminar or career seminar each academic year.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal, writing, and public speaking skills. They will also demonstrate a history of identifying and solving problems within an organization. The advisors will be responsible for ~100 students. They will help students create both short-term schedules for each semester and long-term plans for graduation. Advisors are responsible for knowing the academic requirements, policies, and procedures in the academic catalog and to communicate them effectively to students. Advisors also work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to insure the inclusion and success of each student.

A Master’s degree is required. Experience in higher education, teaching, and/or counseling is a plus. Familiarity with information systems and Microsoft Office programs is desired.
