Purpose

Full Inspection of all in-process, first article, and final inspection on all parts.

$16.00 - $20.00 per hour starting wages. Pay is based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Production Visual Inspect.
  • Visually inspect parts 1st thing in the morning for damage, burrs, and other cosmetic defects. Parts should be coming into the inspection room at the end of every shift from the floor. (Use of scope as for visual inspection as needed).
  • Identify and Monitor paperwork.
  • Ensure counts match and routers are filled out. If the count and/or router is found to be incorrect the Inspector must return the job and paperwork to the department supervisor immediately.
  • First article inspection.
  • A first article part along with the job traveler packet will be given to the Quality Manager by the set-up person. The Quality Manager will then assign an inspector to inspect the first article part. Inspectors are ultimately responsible for approving the first article inspection. Inspectors are not to complete a first article if the first article paperwork is not filled out from the set-up person first. When performing a first article inspection the inspector must check the part 100% visually and dimensionally to ensure a correct process. Once the process is approved a green tag is attached to the first article part and issued to the set-up person. If the part is rejected the job packet with the part must be given to the department manager.
  • Gathering of gages and equipment.
  • Using the production board in the quality room, Inspectors must make sure all gages and inspection equipment is in house and ready before the job is setup on the floor. If inspection equipment needs to be ordered, the department supervisor and production planner must be notified as to when the equipment will arrive for scheduling reasons.
  • Final Inspection.
  • The Quality manager will assign Inspectors for the purpose of performing final inspection. All final inspection parts should be handled with gloves to insure no contamination. All parts must be looked at 100% to ensure no visual defects or burrs. Final inspection of our product must be checked to our customer requirements. (Know the use of various inspection reports as required). If any parts deemed re-workable or scrap the department and Plant Manager must be informed.
  • Perform basic housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • All Inspectors are to maintain a clean and safe work area throughout the day. At the end of your shift, stop and clean your work area. The last quarter hour of your day should consist of cleaning up your work area. Cleaning your area includes, but is not limited to: your work bench and the measuring equipment. Also, any unused gages, pins, or other equipment should be put away after use. As a customer requirement there is to be no food in the inspection room. All beverages other than water must be in a spill proof cup to insure no contamination is possible.
  • Review and complete routers and line reports.
  • All paperwork needs to be filled out accurately and handled per current ISO regulations. Make sure routers, line reports, material certifications, and any other paperwork pertaining to your job is filled out properly. Employees are responsible for completion and verification of paperwork and part counts.
  • Update computer database.
  • The MRP system (Job Boss) is the company’s method of tracking production progress and quoting new jobs based on the times and efficiencies entered by each operator. It is very important that every operator is logging in and out of Job Boss on a daily basis and accurately accounting for the good parts produced as well as any scrap run while logged in on production.
  • Comply with all related safety regulations and policies. Advise supervisor of potential hazards.

It is also the operator’s responsibility to notify the lead or supervisor if there are any potential hazards on the shop floor. Comply with all company policies, procedures, guidelines and work instructions related to safety, operations or employment.

The floor inspector should only check the visual aspect of the parts, looking for burrs or defects and the critical dimensions. A critical dimension consists of any pin dimension or any dimension +/- .001 or less.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • You may be called upon to perform a task that is outside your daily scope of duties. Use this as an opportunity to show that you are versatile and a team player within the department.
  • Quality of product.
  • Inspectors are required to check the parts they are inspecting to the customer supplied print.
  • Eye Exam.
  • Quality inspectors must pass an annual eye exam with Jaeger Test. This is required if performing final inspection on Parker Hannifin Products.
  • Quality inspectors must be able to work together as a team and must be able to communicate issues with employees in a professional manner.
  • Awareness of Prevention, Detection & Removal of Foreign Objects (FOD).
  • Prevent introduction of foreign objects into an item. (Debris is defined as residual materials left by the manufacturing, storage/handling and shipping processes (i.e., metal chips, shavings, tooling remnants, dirt, oils films, etc.) as well as contamination introduced from another source, including personal items such as food and beverage).
